Since his earliest days on earth, man has striven to protect himself from the elements. As civilization progressed, he built himself more sophisticated shelters. After a while, form and style, as well as practicality, pervaded the architectural scene. The Architectural Course attempts to instill in its stu- dents an understanding of the human environ- ment, both functionally and esthetically, through workshop and recitation classes. Every aspect of the building problem is investigated and dis- cussed. The student learns how to tackle a given design according to its needs. Upon completion of the course, each student being part artist, part car- penter, and part social scientist is well on his way to his chosen career. 38

Science and industry require that we do not accept the world as we find it, but change it to suit our needs. Since chemical sciences are an integral part of this process, Tech's Chemi- cal Course, through lecture and laboratory work, provides the student with an extensive knowledge of the major fields of chemistry that are in practice today. Such an education- al program can lead to a fruitful career in either chemical science or engineering. 40
