Y. www.BrooklynTechSurvivors.com 3 ec ication The vast changes in economic, social, political, and religious life during the Renaissance had their intellectual counterpart in the humanist movement. Humanism in the Renaissance derived its name from one of its most crucial concerns: its ad¬ vocacy of a new educational curriculum which would emphasize a group of subjects known as the humanities. At the forefront of the humanist movement was Vittorino da Feltre, the noted European educator, whose ideas influenced European schools for hundreds of years. Da Feltre believed that the traditional scholastic education, which prepared stu¬ dents for direct entry into the professions, was too narrow, too abstract, and too exclusively intellectual. These overly specialized disciplines failed to meet society ' s needs; and to this inadequacy in the traditional scholastic education he attributed numerous defects in the world around him. He attempted to rectify this shortcoming in European education by providing students with an education that involved the body and character as well as the mind, thereby preparing his students for the re¬ sponsibilities of citizenship and social leadership. Da Feltre believed that a truly educated person should have a social consciousness and that he should feel a proper sense of duty toward man; de Feltre cherished an optimistic view of man ' s capacities. Yet, the challenges of tomorrow cannot be met with optimism alone. Our edu¬ cational program must consider the demands of our ever-changing society and evaluate its success in meeting these challenges. An education devoted to the human¬ ities alone or to science and technology only is half an education. Mr. C. P. Snow has eloquently expressed the need for ending the dichotomy between the two cul¬ tures in our society. The tremendous advances in science and technology and the method of thinking that has proved so useful in these fields cannot be in conflict with the ideas and values developed in the humanities during the long course of human history. In dedicating this yearbook to Mr. Auerbach, the Class of 1967 wishes to com¬ mend him for his efforts in educating the entire Technite. As Mr. Auerbach realizes, the true measure of an educated person is not to be found in the degree of special¬ ization he is subjected to, but in the various ways he can employ his education in serving humanity. 2 V , J Our souls, whose faculties can comprehend The wondrous architecture of the world: And measure every wandering planet ' s course, Still climbing after knowledge infinite, And always moving as the restless spheres. In its original and narrowest definition, the Renaissance refers to a complex o ' literary and artistic movements following a revival of classical literature and art ij Italy. However, the Renaissance was more than a conglomeration of social, politi and economic changes that had accompanied previous movements. A fundament; individualism, which manifested itself during this period, distinguished this era froi previous ones. This spirit of individualism and independent thought, this quest for truth and knowledge was known as humanism, the essence of the Renaissance spirit. The human¬ ists believed that an education should encompass body and character as well as mind for the ensuing responsibilities of citizenship and social leadership. Education became more than a stagnant process detached from the mainstream of government and society; it became responsive to the needs of civilization. The humanists represent a new kind of attitude toward human experience and the nature of human knowledge. Accustomed to the everchanging, concrete activi¬ ties of city life, they found the rigid, closed systems of abtsract thought, then typical of the schools, both useless and irrelevant. They sought to free education from the stifling atmosphere of restrictive dogmas and superstitions that had pervaded the Middle Ages. The essential contribution of the Renaissance to the modern world is thus to be found not in its concern with antiquity, but in a new attitude of flexibility and openness to all possibilities of life. This is the true significance of the educational process. This is Tech ' s legacy to us, the realization that the hori zons of knowledge extend beyond the classroom; that a high school education it not just a series of facts to be memorized, but our first confrontation with stimulating ideas of original thinkers. The Blueprint is a testimonial to our endeavors, whether fruitful or not, to attain truth and knowledge. Just as there are histories of the Renaissance, the Blueprint is a history of our stay at Tech. It is a reminder of our quest for knowledge and of the obstacles that we faced and had to overcome. The old theories of alchemy were gradually dis¬ proved and finally refuted. Chemistry, still in its incipient stages, eventually gained acceptance as a bona fide science through the tedious accumula¬ tion of scientific data. Today, as in the early days of the Renaissance, there are still fields of inquiry that have yet to be explored in chemistry. Tech ' s Chemistry. Depart¬ ment, headed by Dr. Louis Weiss, attempts to teach to all Technites the essential concepts of chemistry, the basis for all future discoveries. Experimental courses are constantly modified to keep specialized cognizant of advances in the field. 18 Physics During the Renaissance, philosophers started to seek scientific laws governing the physical world lheirjnvestigations into the phenomena of force, matter and energy laid the basis for our modern achievements in physics. Physics today is one of the most im¬ portant of all sciences. In laboratories throughout the world, physicists delve into the mysteries of nature to unearth the secrets of the universe. Tech recognized the importance of phy¬ sics to the modern scientist and engineer. Our students learn not only to master the accumulated knowledge of the past, but to think and reason according to the prin¬ ciples of the scientific method. Industrial Processes The Renaissance man manipulated wide range of materials—from wood to ferrous and non-ferrous metals used in ships and buildings. A large work for had to be educated in the handling of thes materials from their basic form to their final shape. The need for such a force has increased with advances in technology. Tech’s Industrial Processes Department, under the direction of Mr. Max Kohn, ex¬ poses students to the basic processes and materials of modern industry. The curricu¬ lum includes a study not only of traditional substances, such as ceramic materials, but also of contemporary ones, such as plastics. Discussions encompass in-depth studies and examinations of these materials ' structures and ways in which these structures de¬ termine properties and hence uses. Atten¬ tion is also given as to how these struc¬ tures may be varied to increase the suit¬ ability of materials for commercial use. The Srocial Studies Department The Renaissance, the rebirth of knowledge, was possible only after the rediscovery of classical civilization. Scholars of the Dark Ages largely disregarded the past, thereby limiting their cultural and scientific potential, but in the beginning of the fifteenth century, peo¬ ple began to realize what lay among ancient temples and manu¬ scripts. Soon, when the trickle of knowledge became a deluge, there emerged from this crossing of the classic with the medieval—the Renaissance. First the humanists, led by Petrarch and Erasmus, sought to elevate the downtrodden soul of man. Leonardo formulated plans for devices only recently put into practical use. Machiavelli, in The Prince, produced the first realistic discourse on relative government since Tacitus. In all aspects, the Renaissance elevated man ' s mind and spirit. Just as the Renaissance turned to Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome for inspiration, we find strength and purpose in the heritage of the past. Social studies is the subject that lays the groundwork for good citizenship in a democracy. Through such a study, we get to know our fellow man, in the past and in the present, next door and around the world. It is only through an understanding and a recog¬ nition of the achievements of the past that a civilization can expect a future of prosperity and development. The Music Department Music is a universal language. It ' s a symphonic represeri the likes, dislikes, fears and joys of the age it was written in. The music of the Renaissance took bold new forms to exp people ' s feelings. The madrigal was born, which expressed the and gay feelings of the age. Operas and oratorios expressed people ' s feelings from the meekest to the strongest. The age is by people such as Palestrina and Scarlatti and a host of other m geniuses. The Music Department of Brooklyn Tech is also brimming over bold thinkers, fine musicians and talented instructors, such as its c man Mr. H. Garter, Mr. C. Troxell, and Miss M. Silverstone. By quainting our freshman with operas, symphonies and concertos, t Department stimulates an appreciation for good music. The Music Department also provides excellent opportunities fo students with instrumental or vocal talent in either the Glee Club the Dance Band, the Orchestra, or the concert band. 21 Shops And as our hero is being fed into the mill, we find . . .” In the sixteenth century, a certain person named Leonardo da Vinci, among others, began writing about foundry practices. Aided by the printina press, he began telling everybody abo ut J _ of worker who was a patternmaker, mold-maker, blast furnace controller and machinist all in one. People like him probably told of the great advance¬ ments made in foundry, such as the concept t s and risers would aid in the pourii trnetals and the escape of gases. Up until the 1700 ' s, when the first actual complex machine, the steam engine, was invented, there was much call for a separate profession of machin¬ ing. The main function of machining in Renaissance days was polishing the castings. Likewise, since castings were not complex, pat¬ terns were not. Many times a pattern consisted of merely a strickle board, or template mounted on a pivot and used to clear out large pits, with loom and brick cores. Leonardo da Vincini, the foremost aeronautical engineer of his day, left behind a legacy of primitive sketches and written material depicting the unbelievably advanced ideas pro¬ duced by his fertile mind. It is no great wonder that many aspiring pilots flew to early graves from high mountain peaks. It must be remem¬ bered, however, that these men worked with little prior knowledge and poor materials. Fear of ridicule forced them to work secretly. Aeronautics, and Astronautics of course, is no longer a primitive area, but one of the most highly developed technologies of our times. We now have specialized schools, such as Brooklyn Tech, where a student, if he chooses, can get a basic education in the fundamentals of aeron¬ autical and astronautical theory and aero shop and aero laboratory. Such study will not spe¬ cialize him for employment immediately after school, but will help make his work in an en¬ gineering college much easier. “We ' ll get your hand free yet — be patient! 26 The one in front had Platformate. Architectural Course The name Renaissance, as applied to architec¬ ture, means a revival of classical features and de¬ tails, such as those exemplified by the Church of St. Spirito and Pitti Palace, both designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, the Florentine founder of Italian Renaissance architecture. Brunelleschi de¬ veloped the free style of architecture, while, at the same time, reviving the use of Roman architecture. In the above-mentioned church its creator used many techniques of the Byzantine period, tech¬ niques unusual for the architecture of his time. From Brunelleschi ' s era onward, the chief build¬ ings of Italy were identified by the names of their designers; previously, in Italy, the architects had been anonymous. Today, the Architecture and Building Construc¬ tion Course at Brooklyn Tech helps students de¬ velop drafting techniques, planning and designing skills and the ability to use modern building con¬ struction materials. The course is intended to pre¬ pare students to create, design and construct prac¬ tical as well as imaginative buildings. 29 Chemical Course The scientist of the Renaissance was character¬ ized by one outstanding quality—the courage to disagree with the scientific knowledge estab¬ lished by his predecessors. Such a man was Para¬ celsus, a renowned physician of the time. Shortly after being appointed to the position of Profes¬ sor of Medicine at the University of Basel in Switzerland, he defied all precedents and began his lectures by burning the books of Galen, the supreme authority on medicine in the Middle Ages. His career in medicine was ruined, but he had the courage to challenge the establishecL authorities and defend his beliefs. Reputed as the discoverer oHwdrogen, Para¬ celsus remains today aqreat man in the annals of scientific achievement. This valuable quality of searching for truth is instilled in the students of the Chemical Course under the direction of Dr. Louis Weiss. Through an extensive program of classroom study and theory, coupled with actual laboratory work in the major areas of chemistry, the student can hope to attain the knowledge and skill necessary for entering the industrial field or pursuing further studies in col¬ lege. 30 ‘Are you sure you know what you’re doing? The Renaissance marked the change from the parochial attitude of scholasticism to the liberal attitude of humanism. The men of the Renaissance did not circumscribe their views but searched for new ideas. Men began to question age-old truths. Copernicus was to ask, Did the sun really revolve around the earth? Galileo queried, Did a large ball really fall faster than a small one? Locke later asked, Why do kings have the divine right to govern? The questioning of ancient concepts brought of new truths and greater ce heralded continued today in the College Prep Course. This course offers a wide variety of subjects that do not lead to premature specialization and an insular attitude. The student is liber¬ ally exposed to both technical and academic disciplines. These disciplines of study help awaken in him a desire to search for truth; they make him a free man who is not a slave to preconceived notions. “No matter how hard I try, I still can ' t get WMCA! 33 What a Day for a Daydream. The best engineers of the Renaissance were its best artists as well. In this role of industrial designer, Leon¬ ardo da Vinci is unmatched. Leonardo designed in¬ numerable machines and weapons of war. He was also the painter of Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and many other great masterpieces of art. His fervid in¬ terest in science led to his study of mechanics and biology too. Art has changed a great deal since the Renaissance; in addition, the methods of developing artists have changed. Today ' s aspiring artist will rarely be found in a master ' s studio; he will get his training in schools. Tech ' s Industrial Design Department, under the direc¬ tion of Mr. Herbert Rosand, is today ' s studio of the old masters. The Renaissance, a time of intense intellectual stimu¬ lation, contributed greatly to the advancement of technical practices concerning machinery and its use In society. Leonardo da Vinci, the genius of the Renaissance, was able to perceive the vital role mechanical devices would have in future generations. He designed many intricate pieces of machinery, in¬ cluding a boring mill, a screw machine and a lathe with a three-bearing headstock. His main contribution was, however, less material in nature. Da Vinci was the stimulation for further research and invention. As a result, the field of technology was given a jolt which started it on its way to becoming the basis of all industry. _ Technology has come a long way since the Renais¬ sance. Although graduates of the mechanical course are not considered craftsmen, they do acquire sufficient knowledge to make an effective entrance into industry. 37 Structural Course The Renaissance fraught great beauty and construction techniques of its time. Mr. James Quinn Da Vinci ' s only observation of electricity was that if a piece of amber is rubbed with fur, it picks up bits of straw and other light-weight materials. Indeed, the ancient Greeks had made the same observation centuries before. Today in Tech ' s laboratories, the boys of our Electrical Course perform basic ex¬ periments in the use of electricity of which Leonardo Da Vinci had no perception. The training received in this course is thought to be second to none in the country. The boys are taught basic skills that can qualify them to enter industry upon graduation, although most pursue further studies in college. Some of the basic principles which are emphasized relate to circuitry, electro¬ chemistry, electric generators, and trans¬ formers. The student also learns how to use certain measuring devices such as the volt¬ meter, ammeter, wattmeter, and ohm- meter. In addition, there is the electronics option which contains two courses con¬ sisting of broadcasting and electronics. The electrical course leads the school in the use of computer programming. Foremost among the diplomats were the Medicis, one of the greatest families of the Renaissance. Their ability to think quickly and find solutions to dynamic situ¬ ations often saved the day for Italy. Tech also has its diplomats—the Long¬ fellows, one of the most eliti squads. I iystem which grants vice- acchio Peter Turza Secretary Mr. Allan Kaplan The inability to mass-produce books or periodicals caused the works of great Renaissance scientists to be overlooked for years: Galileo ' s works were first printed when he was on his deathbed; Da Vinci ' s notes were not even glanced at until years after his death. Thus, many potential stu¬ dents of the sciences during this period were denied access to works which might have given them greater incentives to study science. The students at Tech have no such problems. The Science Bulletin has given The Survey The earliest newspaper that appeared with any degree of regularity was a sixteenth-century Venetian news bulletin. For the privilege of being able to see this posted bulletin, the townsmen paid a gazetta, a small coin. A corrupted form of the word gazetta became gazette, an English synonym for newspaper. Tech ' s own gazette, The SURVEY, under the supervision of Mr. Nicholas Mala¬ ccas kept students and teachers informed of all that was going on, in and around the school. Always on top of the news on Page One were Takayuki Okamato and William Galperin. Presenting food for thought, in the way of editorials and features on Page Two, were Carmine DeSanto k and Chris Hendrickson. The world of the athlete became known t H the Technite through the pens f our sport scribes on Page Th H Owen Pickus and Mark R | traub. Its articles also broaden the scope of knowledge both for Tech- nites who wish to plan a scientific career and for those who are merely curious. The Science Bulletin is a frequent winner of the Medalist Award, the highest granted by the Columbia Press Association. Horizons The Renaissance saw the creation of men interested in both the technical and the cultural aspects of life. Da Vinci ' s genius filled many notebooks with scientific inventions, yet he also painted and wrote original poetry. Many Tech students have traveled a similar road. Evidence of this fact is the school literary and art magazine, HORI¬ ZONS. It is interesting to note that in a school devoted primarily to the sciences and engineering, a magazine of intellectual awareness and sensitivity is able to thrive. Undoubtedly much of this success can be attributed to the faculty adviser, Mrs. Barbara McElligott and to capable editors, such as Edward Heinrich and Sekel. A team years in the making, it boasted a defen¬ sive wall, The Misfits, that held opposing squads to an average of 10 points. At the sound of the opening kickoff, Tech knew they were winners. In the first game, a tremend- offense slaughtered Midwood 42-0. The next crushed New Utrecht 38-22, 22-6 and Erasmus 28-8. Then, being by penalties and the tough defense Engineers were stopped. Not wil¬ ling to give up, they bounced back to beat Lin¬ coln in the last official P.S.A.L. game of the season. The Engineers ' season was highlighted by nominations to the All-City Team of high-scor¬ ing Jim DeVita and Paul Masaracchio; for Paul, a return trip. Rounding out Tech’s great offense were quarterback Richard McKay, fullback How¬ ard Goldman, and end Bill Miller. Each of these boys received honorable mentions on this All- City Team. Baseball Team Tech ' s Baseball Team entered this season with the gleam of revenge in its eyes. Shortchanged by a loss to Grady in last year ' s Brooklyn playoffs, the Diamondmen, led by Captain Carlo Favale, sought that elusive City crown. Stalwarts returning were Co-Captains Stephen Sturman and William Johnson. Infielders Tony Mollica and Ben Herman vowed to play errorless ball as Gus Makris and Al Volpe roamed the outfield. The mound brigade headed-up by returning Vinnie Camuto hoped to pitch Coach Bernard Polan to another top season. 58 “ keep telling you, I can tie my own shoes! Basketball Team Who ' s the wise guy who put glue on the ball?” It is a tribute to Coach Sheldon Schnieder that in his first year he molded Tech ' s Basketball Team into one of the most threatening five-man combinations ever. Perhaps the biggest single factor in the Hoopsters 1 success was All-City Charles Davis. Charley broke every scoring rec¬ ord at Tech as well as becoming the first to total more than 1,000 points. Contributing to this great feat were his 30 point-or-better average and such performances as a 57-point game victimizing Erasmus. Leading a spirited defense was Jackson Chief Thunderfoot Collins, six- foot-four-inch center, and William Staton. This duo helped to maintain board control while chipping in more than their share of points. Key senior reserves, including Ron¬ ald Wright, Glenn Montgomery, and newcomer John Karabelas, rounded out the team. Always in the back¬ ground, yet assiduously aiding Coach Schneider and the Hoopsters, were the senior managers Alan Epstein, Gil¬ ford Vassar, Joseph Cohen, and Sheldon Fialkoff. There ' s something I want to tell you.” It ' s our ball and we play by our rules. 59 Soccer Team Freshman coach, Mr. Robert Feger, has reasons to be proud of this year ' s booters. Coach Feger built a fine de¬ fense which allowed only four goals, while a brutal attack found the op¬ posing net 23 times. After losing an opening day game, the Booters won seven straight and tied one. Golf Team In his freshman year as coach of the golf team, Mr. Mark Greenspan kept the winning streak of retiring Jack Balsam alive. Compiling an un¬ defeated record in Brooklyn ' s Cen¬ tral division in 1966, the new helms¬ man expected the Dutchmen of Eras¬ mus to be the only obstacle to a division crown. Mr. Greenspan relied on Captain Steve Regli for another great season. Trummer, averred that this year ' s rendition was one of the finest teams I have ever seen. Bulls-eye after bulls-eye put the 1966- 67 Rifle Team on its way to its fifth straight City Championship. Big John Snyder atttributed a stronger team to the addition of sharpshooters John Stigi, Steve Jones, Hal Katz, Ray Schauer, and Mike Jessick. Backing up this keen-eyed team were J. These four years marked a time of learning and maturing: We entered as boys and now we are leaving as men, men that have faced the challenge of four years of hard work. This wasn ' t a physical labor but a toil of the mind. Some who started with us have left, but those of us who remained have firmly resolved to reach our goals. The diploma that we will receive at graduation is not just a piece of paper but a symbol of the culmina¬ tion of hard work and study. History of Events 1963 - 1964 September of 1963 marked our entrance into Tech and the beginning of the end of the Old Tech. Mr. William Pabst declared his intentions to retire. The new look” included a history teacher, Miss Cincotla, and the halls were never the same. The Old Tech” also won a football championship and its first basketball game in two years, while the Mets clinched last place, again. The S.O.S. elected new leaders and the G.O. changed the service credit system. Mr. Joseph Fanning was the Survey’s Man of the Hour.” Tech was not the only institution to experience a change of leadership that year. A senseless killing in Dallas, Texas, gave Lyndon Johnson the torch to carry which John Kennedy had lit. Mr. Pabst made the grim announcement during the eighth period of the school day. The President died at Parklands Hospital from a gunshot wound in the head.” The words had not yet penetrated when Technites were dismissed that afternoon, only to meet people crying in the streets and subways. The awareness of flags flying at half-mast seemed mournfully to confirm the news that one of our own was with us no longer. The closing of school for the President’s funeral was perhaps the first time the engineers would have preferred the subways and buses to the living room television set. But some gladness remained in the air when the limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was signed. The future engineers in Tech felt somewhat relieved that they might not have to go into the defense industry. 1964 - 1965 Well, we were sophomores; yet many of us remained as gullible as freshmen. The Survey reported, on Page Four, Tech To Become All Girls,” and even indi¬ cated that three females had already invaded the school. When word spread quickly that witnesses had actually seen them, organized chaos occurred. Mr. Pabst was officially thanked for his forty-two years of service to Tech; Mr. Stewart became acting principal. The sports pages were filled with the money battle between the professional football leagues. Sonny as in Money” Werblin took the honors when he paid $4.0 x 105 ($400,000) for a trick knee. The Yankees played in the World Series (their last, for a while?) and the Mets finished tenth. As fourth termers we were given the rare opportunity of being Technites dur¬ ing the publication of a revised edition of the bible, the Tech Handbook. The S.O.S. made headlines when they elected some new leaders while we learned that happiness in art appreciation is getting 100% on one’s notebook. One more thing happened which was given little publicity. The Freight Ele¬ vator’s cables snapped while the car was on the fifth floor; it took twenty-two min¬ utes for the car to fall to the basement. Fortunately no one was hurt. 1965 1966 The Junior year! This was the year that Technites were blessed with the Ex¬ perimental Physics Regents Course. Many of us still contend that the ’experiment? Actually, 1965-1966 was perhaps the most significant in the transition period which Tech experienced. The Lindsay Administration had taken over City Hall and curiously enough rumors began circulating to the effect of Did you hear . . . they’re gonna close Tech!” Yes, that was the year that Tech almost never had. Pressures were put on the Board of Education to close Tech, Stuyvesant (boo), Bronx Science (boo), and High School of Music and Art (yeah, 80% girls). Alumni rallied to the support of these schools and opposite pressures were put on the Board of Education. Tech, for the time being, was saved. Well, it tired on almost happily. That year also saw the disruption of Tech’s per hal chauffenry ' the ' -{transit Authority. A noisy man gave some robed fudges a little personal advice and almost paralyzed New York City. Technites attended local high schools, saw how the other half lived and realized that co-education” is not a dirty word. To the dismay of Technites, final exams (including physics) were cancelled. A ' sign of the times’ appeared in the Survey. An advertisement read, Know Where You Stand: The Draft and You.” Perhaps they were trying to tell us some- thing. The Gym team won its first City Crown, while the Football team upset Jeffer¬ son. The Yanks finished sixth, as the Mets finished tenth. The Students beat the Teachers in the annual student-faculty basketball game, and the S.O.S. elected some new leaders. 1966-1967 Seniors, at last! It was a hard grind and even more disturbing when we were informed that many colleges required Mid-Year Reports. Well, back to work for another term! During our seventh term, Mr. Isidor Auerbach became the new tenant of the Principal’s Office. Mayor John Lindsay made a personal appearance at Tech to help install the new principal and the Technites behaved admirably at the assembly .. Upon leaving, the Mayor told us something we already knew: Tech is just great.” Change had come to Tech. One of Mr. Auerbach’s first acts consisted of sum¬ moning the student leaders to his office, asking their opinions on the Tech curncu- turn and other related topics. Innovation was in the air. Our $150,000 eleven-thirty IBM Computer arrived at Tech. It was capable of doing almost anything; therefore, no one in Tech could decide on useful employ¬ ment for it. It had very pretty dials and lights, though. Of course, the greatest day of our senior year was the one in which a new antenna was raised and the old razed antenna lowered away. The new structure made Tech the tallest building in Brooklyn. Mr. E. Kahn of the Social Studies Depart¬ ment summed up everyone’s feelings when he declared, on a windy day, Well, if it doesn’t fall down—they put it up right.” Administrative Assistants Marcus Mayer and Joseph Fanning taking leaves of absence, were replaced by Mr. Joseph Lipp, former chairman of the Program Com¬ mittee, and Mr. Frank Stewart. Looks like those detention slips won’t catch up to us now,” was the reasoning of all the well-disciplined Technites. In the Where Are They Now” department, a Tech grad became an astronaut, while a basketball player, Charlie Davis, finished twenty-four points shy of the all- time city personal scoring record. A great football team fell two fumbles short of the City Crown, and the basketball team had a winning record. The S.O.S. elected new leaders and the prices of lunches in the cafeteria rose to new heights. To poi¬ son one’s friend cost 37 f The sports world noticed some changes too. The Mets were not last, the Yanks were. The football Giants gave up a record 501 points, (72 in a single game) and the pro leagues merged. A little sports news made everyone sad. Arthritis forced Sandy Koufax to call it a career after only four no-hitters. The New York World Journal Tribune finally appeared; the conflict in Viet Nam was now being called a war”, and the Central Intelligence Agency announced that it had been giving subsidies to collegiate organizations since-way-back-when. Technites grieved at the news of the death of the crew of Appollo I, while the war hit home with the deaths of several alumni serving in Viet Nam. Yet with all that happened throughout our four-year stay at Tech, we did- manage to survive and leave just enough of the building standing for the classes of the future. We have enjoyed the time at 29 Fort Greene Place and will always look back with fond memories. No matter what, the sight of the blue and white Tech jacket will probably bring a smile to us for many years to come. What happens now as we each go our separate ways, only time and our draft boards can tell.
