TECH the city . . . a sanctum for youth. Did you ever think of it that way? For four years, five hours or more a day, we've been living in a separate city-a city in itself-complete and self-sustaining. It breathes, it lives-it contributes and it absorbs. Come, just one more look into the heart of this throbbing city. Let's see Tech . . . the city . . . the molder of men. Taking the census The Big Lift Transcripts in triplicate There but forthe grace ot God go! Over twenty years ago we were given a grant of land-and an idea. On that land, an eight- story building has grown. As for that idea-it has been proudly augmented and strength- ened. Four years ago, we, who are now seniors, were granted citizenship in this city. lt was an honor to spend our most impressionable years within its limits. Like any city, we like to think of ourselves as a complete entity, dependent on no one. Our citizens, living in the suburban area, com- mute daily to our metropolis. Along the spokes of the wheel we travel to the hub by train, trolley, bus, bike, or just plain feet. Upon entering, we End the council of judg- ing elders, who though seemingly annoying to us at times, continually advise, instruct, and pass on their invaluable experiences. We all have our duties and, some believe, our privileges. Our city boasts of its student government, publications, social activities, high standards, and its efficient faculty. And we live and work, and complain, and suddenly . . . a bell rings. There is a rush, a surge . . . an echo . . . six thousand souls dis- perse . . . a muteness . . . a lady cleans . . the night owls wing . . . and a city sleeps.

INA l I A gr 1 :Alix I L. The extra point . . . GOOD! The wheels of education turn-our faces come and go- but if we should return years from now, we would still probably find those people that are now such a necessary part of Tech life. King lack would still be blowing his whistle in the ears of us johnnies, while Bryan would probably be starting his second twenty years down in the laundry room making the towels so nice and fluffy. Up in the lunchrooni, Mrs. Holmes, the dietitian, will still be telling prospective GO. candidates that she's already tried chocolate milk and pink lemonade and ice cream sodas- they just don't work, Oh, well, think up another plank in the platform. The coal stoker down in the boiler rooni will no doubt have cleaned the coal dust from his hair and finger nails by now. He'll look up lazily from the financial section of the Times, open a little door and throw in another atomic pellet. As long as Technites move about the school, the porters and niatrons will follow quietly and efficiently, like mothers cleaning up after playful children. As long as we chin on the transoms or put window poles through the windows, the faces of that countless crew-who maintain our city and support its structure-will always remain . . . as long as the wheels keep turning. wf, J T ING JAC f 1--Z' Va QQ!
