JOY tm 1762 aw If an award were to be given for the most active and dedicated teacher in Brooklyn High, it would inevitably find itself in the hands of Mr. Henry C. Joy. Although it is a secret as to what the CQ stands for, it might stand for coach. This teacher has been assistant coach in football and presently is head coach in wrestling and track, besides being Athletic Director. The present Senior Class along with the rest of the student body will not remember lVlr. Joy as a teacher as much as they will remember him as a good friend. In his busy schedule he always seems to find time to help a student with his problems. So because of these numerous attributes, we dedicate the 1962 Eaglet to Mr. Henry C. Joy. 7 Sclwlmc ffofwu 306 UM -f 'Q 1, ' --1 gy . -W: ' . , xanga? f A 'M' nf if .1 ww -5553-HQ M V W fm. ,Qs 6, W iw? :ix fi 5 J im Pilck - Wrestling Don Peddie - Football Bob Vicek - Touchdown Club Award Sam flown Denny Pflaum - Wrestling Armond Girardi - Football Dale Cruickshank - Basketball Q K 1 A ,,X !,,,-N -Q, f-'-'s-..- fA LM'wsN- 5 ZNVG' X 'N-'Q' ffXX,,l 11? jf f 4 Wawfwl Home Saaztq x f i ,,-XX X 'ji- -2-vi... Although the team did so well there is a brighter future ahead. Since only three seniors have left the team, much experience was gained for this seasonls team. Special honors were given to Armond Girardi who made All-County first team. Dale Cruickshank, Bob West and James Brandt made the second All-County Team. Under the watchful eyes of Coach Bob Marquardt, the 1961 edition of the Brooklyn Hurricanes rambled off to a fast start by tying Rocky River 6-6. This was the first time in the history of this clash that the Pirates did not defeat Brooklyn. Following losses to Strongsville and Mayfield, the Hurricanes received their first taste of victory by downing a tough Brecksville team in a hard fought 18-14 battle. The following week saw a Homecoming victory over North Royalton in which every team member participated. The remainder of the season was rather dark as the Hurricanes wound up on the short end of the score for the last three games. Hampered by inexperience and injuries, the team posted a 2-5-1 record. The future looks bright for next year's team since only five seniors will leave via the graduation route, but these boys will be missed at key positions. Senior halfback Don Peddie, a unanimous all-county choice, was the team's leading ground-gainer, while classmate Bob Vicek was the leading scorer and prime target of junior quarterback Jim Musial. Captain Don Chatham and center Gary Vigneau won berths on the second string all-county team. ywwda y ROW ONE: D. Peddie, L. Gallaher, C. France, J. Musial, G. Vigneau, R.
