CLASS PROPHECY Suddenly after many swift fleeing years I was seized with a longing for home the sight and whereabouts of my old classmates. I packed my earthly belongings and arrived in Brooklyn filled with anticipation and I must admit, with a little mis- givings as to what the future had brought forth from the Class of '5l. As I walked by the theater I noticed the film, uLove Devinen, starring Gus Baer, the greatest actor of stage and screen. Playing opposite him is Betty Lent who has won the nOscar Awardn two years in succession. H'm, nice going, Gus and Betty. As I turned away from the billboard, the cutest little hat shop came into view HDale Burwell, Manageru in bright gold letters was printed on the glass door. Good- ness! I have heard of nDale Burwell's famous women's hatsn but I didn't have any idea that that famous person was our own little Dale. The printing office stood in the same old place. I entered the building to buy a paper. Looking around and chatting with the owner I found out that Sally Lines got her start here as a magazine editor. The first article she had published was entitled uMy Own Romancesu, which was a huge success. Dona Weisbruch also started her career here by publishing her songs NLove on the South Shoren, uMoon Over Wamplers Lakeu, and her other version of ndood Night, Irenen, which are the latest hits. As I was about to return to the street a big poster in the window caught my attention. Charles Brighton, head of the Brogressive party is sponsoring Frankie Davis as a candidate for the officer of mayor of our town. In the opposite side of the window, a large sized picture of Frances Howe was on display and of all things she is Frank's opponent. It seems that sentiment is in favor of Frances and if successful, she will be the first woman to be mayor of our town. Poor Frankie will have to go back to his project of recuperating enough followers to venture forth on his rocket ship to the moon. Pondering over the careers of these friends I strolled on towards the Kroger store. As I came directly in front of the building I glanced around hoping to see a friend or two. In the manager's box a familiar figure, in a neat navy blue suit was busy with papers and giving orders in a crisp, clear, and efficient voice, it was Norma Boxrud. Eagerly I rushed forward and greeted her. We chatted gaily and in the course of the conversation I found out that she had become the first woman manager of a Kroger store. All of Norma's efforts were not in vain. Feeling the need for relaxation I walked into the nSpotu and sat down. A big television set was on display and a program was in progress. Suddenly I sat up with a start, Ed Meko's face appeared on the screen. I relaxed and sat back watch- ing his show, enjoying it immensely. As a comedian, he has become so good that he has replaced Milton Berle. An advertisement followed displaying a new kind of dessert made with Barry Whitelock's delicious ice cream. Jackie Burton was demons- trating how it was made. Poor Jackie can't seem to get away from ice cream. The dessert was the idea of Mr. Whitelock's favorite secretary, Nancy Parker. It look- ed good enough to eat. Glancing over the paper several items caught my attention. Martha English has become a doctor working and striving constantly to discover new drugs for the benefit of all diseases. Eddie Krause has become the F.B.I.'s best crime detective He brought into custody Bad Joes' notorious gang last year. Millie Winter is a nurse. The hospital at which she works is flooded with applications for admittance especially from young men. Beverly Baker, Mary Lapham, and Marcia Reed have joined the circus. Bev is a snake charmer and amazes all who see her. Mary is known as Madame Giggler, all the kiddies love her. Marcia has become an outstanding singing trapeze artist. Her performance leaves her audiences spellbound. Phil Cottrel has been spending most of his time selling tepees to the Mexicans. His persuasive power of speech moves the Mexicans to buy the tepees. What use tepees are to the Mexicans, only time will tell. As I folded the paper, I rose and walked out into the bright sunshine. I felt satisfied and quite eleted over the accomplishments of the Class of n51n which I am sure had made its mark on the world.
