V 1 BROOK LINE ' W7- CO O I o o 2 3 4 THE MURIVIAN 1972 This high school is people. Real, tangible, moving, growing people: their feelings make life what it is. But good or bad, high school life belonged to us, deeply affected us. It was us! It cer- tainly didn’t lack moments of intense concern, belief and ac- tion. We remember a look, a smile, shouting voices, stomping feet; a celebration of life. The hours of working whether writing with a pen, or studying Spanish or building an engine. Thus for your pleasure and fulfillment the intent of this yearbook has been to create for the special owner a catalyst to a kind of his- tory of the year. The 1972 Murivian contains many different sometimes extremely personal points of view in order to present the spirit of our high school year. We wish to give special thanks to Robert Selame, Kathy Ham and John Lamb in appreciation of the effort on behalf of this year’s Brookline High School Murivian. 8 1 Hffin 1 li rt i ■IPT i ity liy Table of Contents Senior Introduction page 10 Seniors page 1 1 Underclassmen page 64 Akers House page 65 Lincoln House page 83 Packard House page 101 Roberts House page 1 1 7 Departments page 133 Sports page 155 -The Senior, perhaps, does not love the school. Karen Goldrich 96 Walking into the cafeteria you always pass a bunch of kids, hanging on the banister, leaning on the walls. Inside, the large room is a static. People are talking, laughing, chattering. The radio station broadcasting is blaring. The tables around lunch- time are always crowded and there are a number of souls burdened with a purchased tray of bought food, desperately seeking a place at one of the many quadrangle tables. Those who are lucky enough to have a seat with their friends are smil- ing, wild happenings being related to the grinning listeners, hands gesturing fanatically. Girls holding straws with their wrists bent, guys leaning against the backs of chairs. Ladies in white are picking up trash, mopping tabletops, pushing around barrels. Someone across the way has forgotten a spoon or a fork. Coats are thrown over chairs, and someone making his way through the jungle of tables will ever knock you with his elbow. 97 408 f! f?l fio (iT 04 i ' 3l fP| ( 1 . Donald Marcoux 2. Sports is the hours of practice, the discipline, the sore mus- cles and the skill. Sport is giving a fullness of giv- ing, the pride that comes with winning and still en- joying the game if you lose. Sport is competition, and coordinating with a team. Sport is the strength of the gymnast, the endurance of the runner, the speed of the swimmer, the power of a tackle, the cleverness of a coach. 49 Row 1: Paul Kalnins, George Morrison, Curtis Rod, Dan O ' Leary, Bob McGourty, Chuck Kennedy, Phil Reggie, Brad Kennedy, Rich Saunders, Harry Car- roll. He is con- cerned with the welfare of the team rather than individual glory or per- formance. As captain he was an ex- cellent leader, concerned with wel- fare of every boy on the team— he had excellent team spirit. He per- formed very well despite the fact that he’s playing a game where size is an important factor. Pound for pound he was as good as any foot- ball player in the league— he was an aggressive and spirited player.’’ Coach Schluntz Bill (Blue Chip) Seibolt— Brookline High ' s All- Scholastic. 1 CHEERLEADERS AND MAJORETTES 1 Row 1: Mike O ' Leary, Joe Annese, Peter Muse— Co-captain, Paul Connors— Co-cap- tain, Tom Sullivan— Co-captain, Ken Mutsu- moto, Jim Rileyin. What made the academic year 1971-1972 different? New courses? New rooms? New people? Those certainly meant growth, devel- opment and new ideas, but that was happening when the Murivian first went to press. This year, then, wasn’t really different. Ours is an attempt to be helpful in remembrance of this year for even though the year wasn’t that kind of different from a general viewpoint, it certainly was unique to each of us. Foot steps of four years; past, fading out the door. Only to be louder, then they’ve ever been before. miSBOOKlSFORUStt , V [HE LlBRAfiY BUH.WK6 CfNlY r J
