3 1712 01439 6629 MR. EDGAR BRUCE DEDICATION To you, Mr. Edgar Bruce, we, the students of Brookline High School, are pleased to dedicate the Murivian 1962. You have contributed unselfishly both your time and talents to all three phases of Brookline High School life: Scholarship, Fellowship, Sportsmanship. As a truly fine mathematics instructor, you transform the basic facts of geometry into the workable and even enjoyable manipulation of numbers and shapes; as adviser to the Murivian Business Staff, you have es- talished the concept of friendly, yet purposeful cooperation; as adviser to the golf team, you provide, by a sincere interest in golf and a warm understanding of the boys, the inspiration and drive so necessary to a successful team. More than fine instruction and guidance, however, you impart to those of us for- tunate enough to have come in contact with you the ideal of self-reliance. Wheth- er in the classroom, on the Murivian Business Staff, or at the golf course, we have learned from you the true meaning of independence, of learning to think and act for ourselves. For your instruction, your guidance, and your interest in us as individuals, we, the students of Brookline High School, offer our deepest and most sincere thank you. 4

Let us liken the all-inclusive circle, which encloses our crest, to the Student Body of Brook- line High School, for both circle and Student Body embrace all three phases of life at BHS: Scholarship, Fellowship, Sports- manship. The Freshman’s rela- tively slight contribution serves as his introduction to a new, more adult existence. The Soph- omore’s participation in more than one phase of BHS life leads to his choosing, as a Junior, that phase in which he may utilize his talents most effectively. The Senior, through his earnest and diligent efforts, bestows honor not only on his name, but also on the name of his school. Just as geometry states that the whole is equal to the sum of its parts, so is Brookline High School equal to the sum of its Student Body’s labors. As the circle which encloses the crest deter- mines the extent of its three divi- sions, so is the direction of the three phases of life at Brookline High School enfolded in the Stu- dent Body
