We of the United Nations are not making all this sacrifice of human effort and human lives to return to the kind of world we had after the last World War. We are fighting today for security, for progress, and for peace, not only for ourselves, but for all men, not only for one generation but for all generations. FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT October 12, 1942

Since the 1946 M urivian was to be the first Brookline High School year-book to be published after the end of World War II, the staff at first considered using the war as the theme for the book. We soon realized, however, that although the battle against the Fascist nations had affected the lives of all of us, the most important consideration for high school students about to take their place In the world as adults was the peace following the global conflict. It was with these Ihoughts in mind that we chose to use both war and the peace as the theme for the 1946 Murivian. On the cover of the book appears a dove, the universal symbol of peace, while through a series of drawings we have attempted to portray high school life In peace time. On the senior pages are depicted many of the Important events which led to our military victory. This group ends with a picture of the United Nations Conference In April, 1945, express- ing the hope for unity among the Allies and for continued world peace. 3
