WILFRED H, RINGER Hcadmast-eir During his fifteen years as Headmaster, Mr. Ringer has done so much for Brookline High School that it Is with deep regret that the entire student body views his departure. Under his auspices, the House System was instituted, student government was greatly furthered, and the present system of sfudent guidance has been developed. It was also under his direction that the school was re-organIzed after the fire of 1936. His record does not stop wlih these and other important accomplishments for our school, however. Mr. Ringer has found time to become a leader In our community life, heading such organizations as the Rotary Club of Brookline and the local chapter of the War Parents of America. His abili- ties were recognized by his election as President of the National Associa- tion of Secondary School Principals. Mr. Ringer would like to present these parting thoughts to the gradu- ating class of 1 946: Graduates of 1946: Every great crisis In our national history has witnessed the breaking of the pattern by which we once organized and directed our lives. These times of decision have been dynamic periods. If we are to be true to our tradition as once more revealed to us, we will not attempt to recreate the past, but will fashion a new and better pattern. You, therefore, become the architects of a new world. As you build, you musf make choices. Their effect upon life will shape the centuries ahead. Each of you will play some part In this human drama. We who have stood with you in the years that are past will be ready to serve at your call. As you ask His guidance, may lives of richness and abundance be yours. Godspeed In the new world of your making. 6

MARY W. SAWYER Dean of Girls To the Graduating Class of 1946, My most cordial good wishes go with you all as you face the future. In some ways your problems are harder than those faced by graduates of the war years. There is no longer the challenge that comes to the individual while the fighting is going on, but the individual ' s responsibility is even greater in the difficult readjustment to peace. It is as true now as it has always been that where there is no vision the people perish. Have you the courage, the determination, the self-discipline, and the patience to follow the gleam wherever it may lead? For it is no small task to which you are summoned. Always is youth attended on his way by the vision splendid. Keep your dreams and do not let them fade too soon into the light of common day ! May true happiness be yours as you move ever onward to a very real success! Cordially yours, MARY W. SAWYER Dean of Girls 7
