The High School Executive Committee extends its greeting to the students of Brookline High School, for whose good it was created by the School Committee in September of 1943. Cordial Greetings to the Class of 1944: As you leave the familiar routine of high school days and move forward into accelerated training courses, into war work of all kinds, into the armed services of your country, you are very much in our thoughts. The school has tried to give you breadth of vision, tolerance toward those with whom you do not always agree, sympathetic understanding of those less fortunate than yourselves. Primarily your task has been to fit yourselves for the work ahead whatever it may be. It has not been easy to keep your perspective in these uncertain days. It has not been easy for the faculty to realize that you scarcely remember a world at peace. For the most part you have kept your heads — and we are proud of you. The war should show us that we are dependent on each other, that neither nation nor individual can live a thoughtless, selfish life, if we are to make what we wish of our community and national life. May the poets dream of our loved coun- try come true through you: America, America, God mend thine every flaw; Confirm thy soul in self-control Thy liberty in law! or to use the words of another writer, Make you the world a bit more beautiful, and better because you have been in it. Keep in touch with us at school. you. Remember we are always glad to hear from Cordially yours, MARY W. SAWYER, Dean of Girls 9
