MY P INT -as E VIEW A feeling of nervousness is Sharpeisl' ce as Mr Rlsrnger X rules to 4 at B C Clos op Good afternoon and welcome to freshman orientation Hopefully this will be of some help to you in learning a little more about the school you will be attending for the next four years By the way for those of you who don t know where room 408 is you just go out the left door take a right go up the stairs go out the door take a right and go in the door on the left You should fmd it with no trouble ala With this statement we were left on our own We soon left the audi torxum to roam the strange and very unfamlllar halls for the first time A slow panic began to set In as I made my way through the seeming ly endless corridors I searched des peratly for some of my classes but unfortunately It was as If I were caught In a maze going around In circles I felt so depressed, wonder mg how In heavens would I ever fund my way around this place Vx if shman Christi rsome 'iff sions of angry teachers screamnng at the top of their lungs The bell has rung? So why are you late? flashed back and forth through my mlnd lust as I was contemplating dropping out of school to avold all these hassles this girl walked up to me Then with four short words and an understanding smlle she calmed a lot of my fears Can I help you? At that moment I thought that gurl was the nicest person I d ever met and I vowed ld be indebted to er the rest of my life It turned ou that she was a student guide and really knew what she was do n With her help I located all my classes the gym and the cafeteria After I got home I sat down to thunk about my new home I was stxll pretty scared but now It was more of an excited anticipation rather than a terrified nervousness I had the feeling that everything would turn outjust fine YD A 4, . How should I know . . . lhaven't ever made any kind of float be- fore! So the conversation went during the first meetings of the Freshman float committee. Perhaps at first they didn't know what they were doing but the float turned out pretty good! The Homecoming float was only one of the many activities that freshmen participated in this year. Many freshmen involved them- selves in clubs of all sorts. By taking part in activities at Brookland- Cayce, they broadened their hori- zons, made new friends and had a very good time. The Freshmen also, were introduced to new types of classroom activities. Some favorite courses with them were Drama, Art and Physical Education. In these and other classes, Freshmen took a ma- jor part in the learning process, by demonstrations, skits and games. Freshmen were very active in or- ganizations such as Student Council, Chorus, Band, sports, cheerleading etc. Ten girls from the ninth grade competed in the Miss Bearcat contest and two boys competed for the title of Mr. Turkey. The Booster Club, otherwise known as Bleacher Bums, was made up largely, of fresh- men. It's obvious that the freshmen did participate!
