The sports are speedball, tumbling, recrea- tional games, volleyball, softball, basketball and track. Aside from our main athletic interest, we also have social affairs. Social highlights of the year are the Gentless .live and the annual G.A.A. banquet. The speaker at our banquet this year P Siam if was Miss Brinley of 4 Sw Minneapolis. Three honor a- wards are given for participation in GAA. The first, G.A.A. monogram, is awarded for the earning of one thousand points A medal is awarded to those earning two thou sand points. They have made more records and won more tournaments than any other group of speakers in one year. To start out, the novice debaters walked off with the tournament trophy at the Watertown Speech Fiesta. Not so long after that the novices won the younger set's trophy at the Madison Tri-State tourney. Not to be outdone by their understudies, the experienced group gained some valuable practice and tech- nique at the Gustavus Adolphus meetg and then they went on to capture the ESD. tourney at Huron. After these warm-ups the squad went on to win both sweepstakes and debate at the Mid-West tourney in Sioux Falls. Next on the list was second place at the South Dakota District meet ot NFL held in Mitchell. Then, as a final wind-up tor the season, the refuters copped the state championship held at Brookings. Two of the champions, Wayne Johnson and Howard Sauer, were chosen by the coach, Miss Lucille Kaul, to debate in the National N.F.L. tourney at Kenosha, Wisconsin. Some of the projects this year were photographic work and the structure and operation of model airplanes. This year our young Einsteins journeyed to Sioux Falls tor the Junior Academy of Science which meets concurrently with the Senior Academy of Science. lt was at this meeting that Allen Cheever received recognition for his formaldehyde project. Each member must work two hours a week in the library as assistant. At the regular meetings they have repaired books and magazines, buying necessary supplies from their fines. A scrapbook of authors and books was started this year, using pictures from the paper covers of books. That day most of the students wore red and black, and many were attired in unique costumes. That evening Bob Holliday and Jane Gilkerson were crowned the Lord and Lady of Bobcat Day with their attendants June Duff, Delores Lemert, Allen Cheever, and Spud Morrison. A diversified program consisting of introduction of players, skits, pep speeches, and awarding of gifts was presented for the enjoyment of the royalty. After that the whole student body had a snake dance to the foot- ball field where the band and the cheerleaders led the students in a pep fest around a huge bonfire. .fozcf B 5 GV fficfa .E-155523151 .fsmazf O O L7 fady gang gifgszaon 1:,,., my ' W H sq-5 -..Q M Q xl? r uf:-J . cs l .-rm?ff,vl he p Q a 'ff as,t4sW'?ief?ff .. 4, Y I ,, x I Q t I . ,. , L' .- . 1 . ,W gpg, ' 5 K X S ,, 4 3 , , I rf DIZ Bogcaf bay . ,, sg, wa -ve T at iii ws-23 045192 61255051 une Bobcat Day dawned cold and dreary. All classes were shortened and held in the morning, and in the afternoon a free movie was given to the entire student body at the College Theater. That evening the Brookings Bobcats met the Watertown Arrows at the State College field. Preceding the game the royalty rode around the field in convertibles. Just before the gun sounded to start the game Lady Jane Gilkerson presented the football that was to be used in the game to Lord Bob Holliday, who was captain of the football team. The band performed at the half, and the game ended with the Bobcats losing 32-O. A homecoming dance was held after the game with The Collegiates providing the music. ,QM x q 1 Q s wt it 3 if ff 1 1 Sw XE 'X x si -- K I H Us 'Q 1 -.., f F . 2' 'Q fl a P i clfauf Klflfofcg- Study cqgillfy l.
