Problems that arise in the school are brought before the Council and discussed and then sent to the stu- dents in each home room for a final settlement. Planning for an enduring world's peace must be effected through the people. The Student Coun- cil, a group made up of one member chosen in each home room. learns to govern according to our high democratic principles. Absent, Ardis Eken. On November 30, 1945, the seniors with their class play Headed for Eden broke all records of attendance, performing before a house of 1,400 people. The play told the story of the struggle to keep a young man. J ack Earley, from having to pay for some- one else's crime. Margaret Peterson and Dick Nagle held leads, but it was Roger Smith, playing the part of a crippled tramp, who gave the most lauded drama- tic performance. Roger's short scene. aided by well planned lighting effects, made an effective climax. Everybody pitched in to help Jack. The setting for the story was a roaming house whose proprietor, Agnes Jornlin, and her very attractive roomers - Lita Lund, Cherian Burdett, Patty Deyling, Beverly Rude, Rosella Peterson, Twila Olson, and Ardis Eken-became novice sleuths. Joan Smith and Paul Hansen cut capers while Darwin Paul solved the case. John DeWitt was the money-man and Stan Corlett, the muscle man. Play production staff chairmen were: Business manager. Brookings Bobcats became kings of South Dakota high school basketball when they wrested a thrilling 30-27 win from the Huron Tigers in the championship game of the state A cage tournament at Mitchell March 15. Three Bobcats, Herb Bartling, Gard- ner Johnson, and Bob Nagle, won places on the all-state team for their performances. In the ESD conference the small but speedy Bobcats won second place, winning eight games and dropping tour. Bob Nagle. senior, was elected captain at the end of the year. Schedule Opp. B. H. Boasting such stars as Blauert and Barr. the Kittens were defeated only once. Besides the smooth playing juniors. the squad showed many promising freshmen. Most of the home games were played as preliminaries to the A squad's games. Coach Johnson has done a grand job with the team. He deserves much credit. IYNN IEADS THINLZADS' Track in Brookings was bolstered by the great per- formances of Harold, Tad . Lynn. Setting new records in the State and ESD con- ference, Lynn was held by a number of track fans to be the greatest mile prospect in South Dakota's history. The Bobcat Tracksters as a whole were very impressive. racking up 103 counters in Region 3 competition for a new record. Brookings also placed second in the confer- ence.
