SALUTE AND VALE Our twelve years at B.H.S. are over, now we stand in a time when all of space and the universe are ready for our first assault against them. Before we turn to the future, we look back on these twelve years we have just finished together. We'll never forget all the work, the escapades, the fun we've had. Nor will we forget the people who have guided and worked with us during these years. So here is our 'Thanks' to our parents and teachers. We bid B,H.S., its teachers and our pals, the underclassmen, Vale and to the future we say Salute. - SENIOR CLASS SPONSORS: Miss Blanche Mathison Miss Theresia Abshagen ,........ 32 ,QQ ' eligif i ? .Q ,Ng U U is If 7 Q V1 Un mm q. 51.1 J W x ' X x ,S JIU!-Q :-+- fi 'V T' r' 1 1 7 wqw r-4 4 -- xii 0 4 -dz' , ,sg '.. ,1HLj' x -A v :K-. - an-T: 0 , 'MTN NJ: Q as M t' ak xv -1 A u1 'i ' f'S.11 - 'va R x O Aw B'Un 1 0-.4-1'y -. Out of This World aptly describes the Ninth Annual Homecoming at B.H.S. On October 25, 1957, at which time the Senior Class of 1958 did a spectacular job with the International Geophysical Year as a theme. Paying special tribute to Miss Mamie Martin and honoring the Classes of 1937, 1947, and 1957, the dajy's program--featuring a parade at 1:30, an auditorium program at 2:30, open house at 3:30--clicked off on perfect sche ule. Even the sun obliged by coming out for the parade, after hiding behind the cold mist all morning. At 7:30 P.M. beautiful Queen Sylvia Lovell was crowned by the 1956 Queen, Betty Penn, after which the Panthers proved that B.H.S. can't lose a lomecoming game by trouncin the Biloxi Indians 19-13, Climaxing the perfect day was the Student Council sponsored dance, bringing to an end the Eiggest and best B. Panther Band, under the direction' of Mr. Robert Moore, has had a very suc- cessful year. Resplendent in brand new uniforms, the band performed at football and basket- ball games, attended Band Day at Hattiesburg and State Band Contest, and performed in chap- el several times. Also several members ofthe band attended the State Band Clinic at Vicks- burg and several made the Mississippi Lion's All-State Band. The Band Parents Club sponsored a Funboree and gave a Christmas party for the band. B.H.S. can certainly be proud of the achievements attained by the band this year. 85 Assistant Manager Clyde, who blows a deadbeat 'boneg Manager Charlie, who likes oodles of noodlesg and Librarian Oscar, who ain't got rhythm, are the officers. X95 1957 Southern Division Big Eight Champions The Brookhaven Panthers of 1957 produced the most successful football season in recent years. The Moyer- Langford coached squad easily copped the Southern Division Championship by breezing through the heavy ten game slate with its record unmarred. Although favored in the Big Eight Title Game, the Panthers had the tables turned by a determined hive of Hornets form Greenville. Never- theless, these Panthers are responsible for the First undefeated regular season in Brookhaven football history. The attitude, the ability, and the perseverance of the Panthers of T957 have brought honor to Brookhaven High School. Nevertheless, they exhibited sportsmanship and fair play the entire season. By some, the Panthers' season may have been termed successful when Brookhaven's quintet broke Provine's string of twenty-two straight victories just before the Southern Big Eight Toumament. Unfortunately, the Panthers were first-round losers in the tourney. Brookhaven dropped a close 51-50 decision to Columbia. However, Coach Sinclair's Panthers proved that you do not have to be champions to play like champions. -L 0 Q 32, 1 A 6 .Q vb K ' fx fa is A r P. x 1 j Fiiaaaliug-Lnsilibr HQHB X vw a1:r-3-1:1-ups.. .mm--f Q I f Q 1 i f 0. 4' n Q5 af 1 QL I X - 1-, 1 x ff Am BROOKHAVEN PANTHERETTES The T957-58 B.H. In A-AA District 7 competition the Pantherettes rose to the occasion to cop second place and the right to enter the South Mississippi playoffs.
