Class of 1957 ' A Hastory R ln August, l945 Japan surrendered, endmg World War Il but another battle was lust begannang The battle l speak of was the battle wath educataon, and at concerns the group of students who are now senaors at B H S For eleven years they have fought uphall, and now have reached the top Magazanes far and wade cgrraed storaes of World War ll battles Here follows, an our favorate peraodacal the story of the Class of l 57. Mass Magee, Miss Stewart, and Mrs Davas began to get us acquaanted wath the three R s an the farst grade and the faght was on We were too young to know better, so we liked school Durang our second year we became more dasclplaned and we learned more under Mass Blue, Mass Granberry and Mass Clark More was expected of us, so we began to wonder af we were wron an lakang school The thard year was ver enloyable, but sometames embarrassing for some of us w en Mass Young made us stand an the corner for yel ang out l beat you! , when doang homework and taking tests Mass Jones and Mrs Wells dad thear best, along wath Mass Young, to teach us how to wrlte Strangely enough, some of us have never developed any laterary style In the fourth grade we made bag gaans under the tutorang of Mass Smath Mrs Gantt, and Mass Tyrone We strove hard to earn a Palmer Method pan for wratang We were also turned toward musac and learned to clang cymbals, tap traangles, and beat drums, mostly lust for fun When our parents came to hear us, they were sure we were all musacal prodagaes The fafth grade was our last and best year at the grammar school Mass Hendracks Mass Namae, and Mrs McRee gave us our fanal preparataons before we went to the saxth grade and the hagh school Some us served on the Safety Patrol, and who can forget those vasual aad falms'7 Mass Nutt, Mass Wallaams, and Mrs Lambraght antroduced us to geography on a large scale, and we took our farst examanataons an the saxth grade They really were lust as bad as rumors from upper classmen had them Our seventh year rolled around, and we changed classes at the end of peraods for the farst tame Most of us s 'xyed lost for the farst sax weeks Mrs Mc Naar crammed Englash into us an more ways than one Coach Gregory gave us our daaly paddlangs an has scaence class Mass Harvey s arathmetac and Mass Lofton s Englash kept us on our toes in the eaghth grade as we prepared to enter hagh school We were able to choose some of our subjects an the nlnth grade, and how grown up we felt! We were exposed to Latan l and Spanash I The Latan l scholars were slaves that year and caught the brunt of the Latan ll masters, as usual The varsaty football team defeated McComb, and we felt some of the glory for the farst tame, and took much of the credat The next year we turned up an the tenth grade, and we were well on our way to the top Mrs Marsalas and baology were on everyone s mind We acquared ansect nets, and most of us were buggy by the end of the year The Latan play was a huge success, and at won two trophaes at the Latan conventaon Last year was a bag year all the way around We chose our class rangs, and of course they were the prettaest yet The football team won the South Bug Eaght Champaonshap, and we had a lot of classmates on the team The basketball team won the Bag Eaght Champaonshap goang away The Jumor Senaor banquet proved to be the greatest yet We moved at away from the library to the Country Club which we converted anto a Stork Club deluxe Who wall ever forget the work that convertang took and the super floor show starrang such graceful dancers as Watts Massengall, and Parkman'P Now, our battle as almost over, and we are lust about over the top ready to proclaam our vactory At last we are Senaors We have enloyed workang on the OLE BROOK and homecoming, whach was consadered by many the best The Showboat audatoraum rogram, and that showboat float wath the lovely Queen and the beautiful court wall never be forgotten Stu yang -and l use the word stud mg wath reservataons an the actavaty bualdlng has been much fun Even sellang at football games and sel ang Chrastmas cards were fun, and of course those playang on the football team have had thear glory And who, of us, wall ever forget that 25 7 score over McComb, the so called South Bag 8 Champnons, on Turkey Day 19569 We enaoyed plannang and beang In assembly programs, and entertaanang busaness men on E B Day, and none of us will ever forget our super senaor play The partaes have started, and most of us have bags under our eyes, but what s sleep to a senaor'7 Our last year an hlgh school as almost over, and we have had a wonderful tame We look forward to our future, and our memoraes of B H S wall stay wath us forever Clyde Allgood Jr Class Hastoraan 20 I U O ll I I ' ' I . . . . ,. . . . . .
