'Me Zed 2eczzo6!0m .lwec Y 1 WGQIOGQ' The twelve years we of 56 have spent together as a class are brought to a perfect cltmax by the Best Year of Our Ltves our sentor year at B ll S These past years were ftlled wtth many happy memortes some of whtch we now take ttme our durtng tntermtsston to relate to you And now we proudly present for your tnspectton the synopsts of our play The Best Year of Our Ltves ACT I Grammar School Scene I As the curtatn parts we are dtscovered assemoled for the ftrst ttme as a class the ftrst grade of the Brookhaven Elementary School the future class of 56' Mrs Davts Mtss Stuart and Mtss Magee crammed the Three R s down our throats That was our ftrst formal tntroductton to Mother Father Dtck Jane Baby Puff and Spot those unforgetable story book characters who were portrayed tn our ftrst requtred book Of course tr wasn t all work We spent more ttme colortng and cutttng up thtngs than we dtd studytng Netther must we forget that thts was the ftrst ttme the oppostte sexes were thrown together tn one btg group We couldn t help but be attracted to each other Scene Il Mtss Blue s class enjoyed thetr teacher s arttsttc talents through the medtum of patnted comtc and nursery rhyme characters That room also collected hollow egg shells and patnted them up ltke ltttle heads to be sold for Easter Our phtlanthroptc sptrtts emerged espectallv that year wrth the Easter Seal Drtve and the Red Cross Wtll we ever forget the ttme Glenda Barley went wtthout lunch for a week tn order to donate that dollar whtch made one a member of the Red Cross and gave the donor a sncker to put on hts wtndow'7 Scene III In our thtrd year we were a htt rtcher than usual and consequently every day at recess one could ftnd most all of us at Ltdge s wtth Dr Peppers tn our hands We musn t leave out that tnsptrtng Thanksgtvtng program grven by Mtss Ruth s room The matn ltne of the play dramatrcally enough went somethtng ltke thts We must all be thankful for the Indtans for they taught us that we should put dead ftsh on our com to make tt grow tall and stratght Our ltttle hearts were deeply tmpressedl Scene IV Around around make your ovals oval around Such was heard echotng tn the hall where the fourth grade rooms were located Remember the Palmer handwrtttng exerctses we practtced so fatthfully under the gutdance of Mtss Tyrone Mrs Gant and Mrs Smith' bookmg at some of our handwrtttng today do you ever stop to wonder what good tt dtd us'7 It was fun though to make those crazy ltttle stde ways tornadoes Scene V Twas thts eventful year that we truly brought forth our great dramattc talents! M15 Hendrtck s room produced a spectacular double feature martonette show btlled as Cltppo s Puppet Show 'Iwo tmmortal performances were gtven tn the form of Ltttle Red Rtd g Hood and Jack and Itll Go to the Ctrcus We charged ten cents sold candy ar the door and collected a ftnal total large enough to repaint the classroom and buy educattonal books and records We were the second room tn the school to make thts much money Mrs McRee s room presented a rolltcktng mtnstrel show for the student body and also charged an admrsston We used the money collected there to purchase a radto A Btble and other educattonal properttes for the room Meanwhtle Mtss Namte s room had more homework than anybody else in the school Mrs Henntngton taught us publtc school mustc and some of the more fortunate members of the class got to play tn the rhythm band And speaking of band' Some of us took up tnstrument playtng Mr Melton was our mustcal bds and how we dtd blow those homs! The girls were thrilled to no end when they got to march on the boy s playground ACT II Iunxor Egh Scene I Now we have moved over to htgh school buxldlng qalthough the stxth grade was legally constdered sttll tn the grade school levely We were of course tntroduced to the new and numerous rules and regulattons and the detentton room Mrs Lambrtght took away our loaded dtce and kept us boys from matchtng penntes tn the comer Miss Nutr taught us the evtls of alcohol and Mtss Wrlltams spent the whole year trytng to remember all of our names The htghltght of that year was the puppet show we presented for our class chapel program Scene III In the etght grade Mrs Dantel furthered our dramattc talents by dtrecttng us tn a Thanksgtvtng program tn chapel We rectred vartous patrtotrc poems and formed tableaux representtng varrous thtngs we should be thankful for It was thls year espectally that we began to double date and to go tn patrs to those unmtssable Saturday double features That was the year of the frrst annual Homecomtng at B H S and our class entered a classtc float tn the parade ACT III High School Scene I Now we were tn the prtme of our educattonal careers Fooltsh Freshmen we were called The Lattn play that year was a btg htt We wrote and produced our own chapel play Relattves Ugh' another of our great dramattc achtevements Mr Wtckltne tntroduced us to algebra I and let the fortunate gtrls who were caught talktng tn class come tn after school and wash the dtrty test tubes left over from that day s chemtstry expertmentl Scene II That sophomore year our chapel program was constdered by all to be so enteratntng that we were successfully coaxed rnto repeattng the performance at the country club We ll always remember the ttme Mtss Smtth drtlled us tn getrtng under our desks tn case of an atomtc attack Scene III Jolly Juntors they called us that year the year we became understudtes to the Sentors Our Engltsh classes were spltt up that year Some of us went to Mus Ab s class and some of us stayed on wtrh Mtss Smtth another year Those days we spent tn Mus Sr11tth s room emotrng Shakespeare wtll be rather hard to forget We prepared for our sentor year even more by taktng over the concesston stands at the Trukey Day game tn order to help pay for Juntor Sentor Banquet Those mum sales were lots of fun too Remember getttng up so early to deltver them We made more money than any other prevrous Junior class The banquet that year was stmply the best ever The trtp to Dreamland was an expertence we ll never forget The huge castle we worked so hard on and the lovely decoratron we debated over so The Blasters furntshed the mustc for the prom whtch followed the banquet Our acttve Student Counctl made sure of that Of course we should by no means leave out that wetrd production of Abtgatl s Second Debut The floatrng candle the mystertous voice and much other nonsense was another play pulled from the versattle pens of the class of 56 Most important perhaps we received our beauttful class rings We were the fmt class of B H S to have the offtcial school crest put on our rtng As the year came to an end we realtzed even more the responsibtllties we would be taktng on the followrng year We elected our annual staff our Panther Howls staff and elected major offtces for the many acttve clubs we partrctpated ln We were approachtng the ftnal goal of our publtc educarton Scene IV FINALE Sensor year that partrcular ttme arrtved That ttme when all our dreams of betng The Star Players came true The sentor actrvrtres the prtvllege of gotng to the acttvrty butlding worktng at the ball game the greatest Homecomtng ever selling Christmas cards choostng our tnvtrattons partlctpattng actively ln all clubs the band that champtonshtp football team cheer leadtng the spoken English trtps all of our parties publtshtng the school s best annual our wonderful sentor play whtch everyone enjoyed so our class day Here we now stand 01 the threshold of a new life a new expertence a new world With the help and gutdance of our parents and teachers our class has grown together in true Chrtsttan fellowshtp and understanding of each other Now the eurtatns are rapidly falling on our final year at dear ole B H S Thu has truly been a year to remember The Best Year of Our Ltvel Hal Warren Class Hrstorran 0 ' N N I
