- ' ' 1 I 1 I-ll ' -rn so 2 s 1 H ' 21.2.-' '--1 v ru-:nil-13 :.l:-1n::- 1.13.4411 We the Sen1ors of 1954 started s1ng1ng together qu1te a long t1me ago In the flrst grade lt may have only been our A B C s but lt was our song and we were on our road to success' The second grade was an eventful year 1n our s1ng1ng career As a part of the May Day program we gave a delrghtful rend1t1on of Home on the Range arded by our teachers M1ss H111 M1ss Clark and M1ss Granberry Wlth the th1rd grade came a class known now as Publlc School Mus1c Thrs gave each one of us a chance to show off our 'h1dden talents ' and I m afra1d M1ss H111 found some of our talents were pretty deeply h1dden Our fourth year under the gu1dance of M1ss Paul1ne M1ss Foster and Mrs Smrth was a b1g year for us The flrst Open House went over w1th a bang dlsplaylng all our hard work on booklets and other art work By the t1me we were f1fth graders we were well on our way up the ladder of the able d1rect1on of M1ss Hendr1cks MISS Nam1e and Mrs Prltchard Growlng up before our t1me the homeroom s of Mrs Lambr1ght and Mrs Shlflette left MISS Nutt's room behlnd and came over to the h1gh school Chapel gave our songsters the opportun1ty of Slnglng ' La Cucaracha and of course we were a huge success? .Tumor h1gh was qurte unusual for us as football cheerleaders chang1ng classes and all the glamor that goes w1th h1gh school came 1nto our 11ves We thought noth1ng more wonderful could happen to us and then we were Freshmen Standlng on the brlnk of our career we seemed pretty small as lowly Freshmen However we managed to keep a st1ff upper 11p through Lat1n Span1sh and Algebra w1th the prom1se that our day was yet to come Our Sophomore year could hardly go unnotlced as we for the f1rst t1me won the B1g E1ght Champ1onsh1p' We were beg1nn1ng to get a taste of glory and lt was wonderful' We amb1t1ous .Tumors were out to sell more rnums than any other class had before and we d1d' However no matter how many mums the people of Brookhaven wore we st1ll lost to our rlval McComb' The Junlor Sen1or banquet gave us a chance to sh1ne as the Carnlval' theme brought 1nto the spothght many CXOt1C performers' Now the most wonderful year of our career 1S rolllng around To be a Sen1or had always been our amb1t1on we were 1ust about to the top of our ladder Un daunted by the loss of the prevlous year our boys beat McComb' After all our Spoken Engllsh comed1es we tr1ed a tragedy then of course there was the Ole Brook and the Panther Howls both under our d1rect1on not to mentlon Class Day and far too many other thlngs We've been Slnglng together a long t1me and the song 1S Just about ended We the Senlors of 1954 hope our melody w1ll l1nger on as the rememberence of B H S w111 long l1nger 1n our hearts Susan Masseng111 Class H1stor1an Z3 4 1 X 1 . . . - . 4 ' i ' - I V .
