In the second grade we had Mrss Granberry Mrss Fulmer and Mrss Brennan to gurde our learmng of 3 from 5 leaves 2 and want IS spelled wa nt And wasnt the thlrd grade 1rrportant'9 Then we had Mrss Ruth Iones M1ss Danxels and Mrss Prrebatsch to start us off on Palmer Pen 'Wrrtmg We had a flower garden too rn whrch we hopped and played a lot but drd lrttle work Ah h h' The fourth grade was when we grrls began to take nottce of lay Bobby and Btlly and all the rest of the male specres That year we had Mrs Smrth Mrss Wallace and Mrss I-Iarrrs who trred to teach us that 2 trmes 2 IS 4 and all the rest of the multxpltcatron table We cant ever forget the frfth grade because that wmter rt snowed and we had holrdays Imagme' We studfed about the drfferent states of Amerlca and began to wrtte to people rn other states Thxs was under the dlrectxon of M1ss Namre Mrss Newman and Mrs Blue lt was ln thxs year that we had to go to church every day or have an excuse from home for we were gOll'1g to school rn the Methodlst Church In the srxth grade drdnt we feel lmttle and we should have felt brg bemg the last grade rn grammar school but mstead we were the youngest grade rn hrgh school We took over the frrst floor east end of the new hrgh school and dreamed about the tlme we could walk all over lt and know where everykodys rcom was Thts year we spent so much trma makmg up rhymes wrth the names of our teachers Nutt Wynd and Burt that we drd very lrttle studyrng The next year at least we drd get to change ends of the frrst floor and go up to the hbrary once or twrce rn a blue moon Mrss Smrth fascmated us wxth all the Chrrstmas legends and sub1ects and predrcates Always one period a day we came down to earth and trembled ln our shoes lest we dare speak or laugh cr glance at the boys on the other sxde of the room or rf we didnt know how to work one of those frve problems You guessed rlght That was Coach Crosss room Coach Therrell taught us how to apply pressure to stcp bleedlng and all the other rules of fxrst ard Mrs McNa1r taught us that DeSoto drscovered the Mrssrssrppr Rrver Of course thls was the flrst year we had the prxvrlege of havlng Mtss Mamle leave us on our honor The only thmg that dampened our sp1r1ts that year was the begmmng of the war In the exghth grade we began to take notrce of football and of the band and Mr Goodwxn s Ixve tn E Flat We drd our part rn the war effort by buymg War Stamps In the rooms of Mrss Davts Mrss Mamre Mr Doug las Mrss Daxly and Mxss Smrth we learned more about the trtcks of note wrrtrng and passrng than we drd about Enghsh and I-Ixstory Thrs year we were back ln the same east end of the hall but we drd get to go upstalrs for hbrary and for scrence those that chose scrence as therr electrve Beheve 1t or not we got to come to school barefooted' That was a pleasure belongmg only to a lowly freshman We thought that upperclassmen were actlng very hrgh and mrghty about some of the thmgs they made us do but dont let us fool you we enroyed dorng them alll The tenth grade was grand' We won the Lrons Bowl we won the Brg Cup we started the Teen Tavern we started the Keys and Stars and we got a holxday for V E Day Remember how we wanted Stahn to stall so we would get a whole day mstead of only a half? Oh I almost forgot rn those days we dfdnt come to school untll elght thrrty The next year a few of the smart ones and a few that werent so smart ventured mto phYSlCS and chem nstry We beat out our brarns what few we had left over typmg And most unforgettable we wrote our fxrst term paper Naturally the thmg we emoyed most thrs year was the Iun1orSemor Banquet We got to dress up eat make speeches and feel Just about as bxg as the Senrors In thrs our last year we know everythrng except of course Just a Irttle algebra Englrsh bookkeepmg hxstory chemxstry physrcs and shorthand But we really think we know enough to get by on In these years we have made many new friends and lost many others All these years ln hxgh school Mxss Abshagen Miss Daily Mrs Wright Mrs Davis Miss Lea Mxss Smtth Mtss Stroud Mrss Burns Miss Butler Mr Renfrew Mrs Malvaney Mass Jenkins Miss Okey Mrs Smrth Miss Harper Mxss Langston Mrss Lofton Mrss Welch Mr Roach Mr McPhatl Coach Therrell have been our guldxng lxghts And last but certamly not least rs Mr Lrpsey wxthout whose councrl and help we could never have come this far After this year some of us shall try for a higher education some of us shall try to put into practice what we thmk we have learned but all of us wxll look back on these past years as the happiest of our lxves By Anne Clark 8 11 I . , . g , , .
