The pleasant memories will be of lessons well learned, friendships forged in working together, positive action toward betterment of school and self, and associations where good will, sparkling wit, and fun prevailed. Your school experiences should have made you wiser, better, and consequently happier. Much credit is due those who have labored upon this annual. The result of your labor is commendable. This is typical of life's work. The greater the effort expended in accomplishment, the greater the glow of satisfaction in a job well done. Norman Tanksley - 37 - BOARD OF EDUCATION SEATED: L. Vickie Hancock, Janet Boardman and Helga Lade withdrew from our class during the year. An Indian program, holiday parties, birthday parties, and a class picnic were special features and, along with our regular school routine, gave us a well-rounded schedule. - 47 - FIRST GRADE ft 0 i k i Ai « a Q J )' 4 i i Craig Willems Linda Lou Honn Richard Barten Cheryl DeLay Donald Strain Vana Thiele Gordon Burton Ruth Ann Kitchens George Ervin Pamela Laffoon Geneva Lade Daniel Ames iSk H Beth Sites Edward Morton Patricia Adams Michael Whaley Cheryl Honn Mark Spangler Linda Lou Hollingsworth Eldon Dalton Karen Laffoon Gregory Odle Charles Deno Mary Bower Ronald Lane Gregory Weston Charles McGee Nancy Schuette Chester Honn At the beginning of school in September, sixteen boys and thirteen girls enrolled in grade one. Our attendance for the first six weeks of school was very good. We ranked first in attendance in the schools of the county. During the Christmas vacation, Ronald Lane withdrew to move to Virginia. Geneva Lade left us in January to enter Ade School. We have enjoyed our school year together, having many good times at our birth- day parties, holiday parties at Halloween. Mrs. Leona Kanne, Mrs. Winifred Curts, and Mrs. Ruth Wagner taught them the 3R'S, Music and Art. Holiday Party Committees planned and hosted parties at Halloween, Christmas. Robert Hancock moved to Daley City, California and Charles Danruther spent two winter months in Florida. Larry Sims, from Mt. Ayr, joined the class second semester. They are an unusual group in many ways, and their teacher. Miss Cooper, expects big things from them some day. She has already detected embryonic signs of future sputniks, ath- letes, lawyers, missionaries, teachers, book-worms, doctors, nurses, fighters, guided missile makers, dare-devils, good housekeepers, policemen, scientists, entertainers, and also some budding romances. There is never a dull moment in third grade, and both teacher and pupils enjoyed the school year. Most of the class are excellent students, but some are still trying to master the intricacies of spelling and the 3R'S.’’ Their special interests are science and good literature. They have built up a good room library which provides challenging materials for all interests and grade levels. - 50 - FOURTH GRADE Jackie Lawrence Julie Burley Steve Lane Kristin Odle Howard Dodd MariAnn Weishaar Rex Ames Dianna Schuster Irvin Latta Imajean Lade James Gerbract Mary Beth Clark Larry Pickett Charles Leitzow Nancy Lyons Johnny Gravesen Pamela Carroll Murlin Lade Marcia Curtis Lester Laffoon Cheryl Morton Steve Waling Carol Antcliff David Honn Nancy McCoy Carl Adams Marguerite Bitler George Davis Karen Rath bun Roger Brown Rosemary Miller Carlin Kindig Inga Spangler At the opening of the 1957 school year, thirty-three students were enrolled in the fourth grade. However, in these next four years and throughout our lifetime, we will look back at the work and fun we had putting this book together. We cannot look back without thinking of separate individuals: the advertisers, the diff- erent editors, and the people who helped them, and our wonderful sponsor, Mr. James. All of these separate individuals cooperated as a team until the last pages were finished. Through the years we cannot help but think that many of you will take this book off the shelf, leaf through it, and recall the many wonderful memories that you lived here at Brook High School. - 74 -
