Mr. Tanksley, since he has been a teacher at Brook High School, has proved himself worthy of such commendation in many ways. Not only is he sincere in his work as a teacher and a superintendent, but his friendliness and in- terest toward the student body and members of the faculty make him eligible for this dedication. Therefore, in recognition of his unceasing labors and dedicated devotions, we of the Senior Class respectfully dedicate this book. 3 Damon Hoover Judy Connell 4 Marilyn Fowler Janet Honn SENIOR BAND MEMBERS: G. To the graduating class, I extend congratulations for having advanced thus far in formal education. It is hoped your education will continue regardless of whether you attend college. Solomon of old pointed out that wisdom and under- standing were the principal things to seek in life. Your attainments are varied. What you have learned has depended upon you as an individual. Your success in life depends largely on how you use that which you have attained for the service of mankind. It is a blessing to have been born in this country. Your rich American heritage carries an obligation of perpetuation and a challenge for improvement. May you meet these obli- gations well and with credit to yourself and country. It is hoped that all of you have gleaned something that will lead you to a richer, fuller life. To those continuing your school career, may it continue to be a happy and profit- able one. To those graduating my best wishes for a future for you that will make this school and community proud that you passed this way. Under the guidance of Mr. Tanksley, the superintendent, the teachers carry out many duties other than their regular class- room chores. They spend time sponsoring classes and school activities; they coach athletic teams; they direct class plays; and they assist in many other ways around school. The students at Brook are proud of the capable and reliable faculty and tip their hats to the wonderful job being done by them. Twenty-seven pupils enrolled in the fourth grade in September, 195 Three children joined us during the year, making a total of thirty. During the first few weeks it was necessary for children and teacher to learn from one another what was expected of each. In September, Our Birthday Club was formed. We decided to have one meeting during each month. Pupils who had birthdays during that month served on the refreshment committee. Children whose birth- days came during vacation months, helped some time during the school term. In this way, each child served just once. Besides having an enjoyable social time, an instruction to club procedure was exper- ienced. At all times the preparation of our lessons received our first attention. In order to prepare our les- sons well, we must understand the assignment, we had to listen closely as the teacher explained what was to be done. As Indiana History is a part of our Social Studies work, we prepared a little skit called, Living in Indiana for American Education Week. We enjoyed giving this for our parents and friends and felt as if we learned many more things about our own state. We hope that this has been a profitable year so that we will be promoted to Grade 5. 49 THIRD GRADE a n f n m - - f n ?■3 m f) •,  Vt A ft rs Carl Adams Carol Antcliff Marguerite Bitler Roger Brown Julie Burley Pamela Carroll Mary Beth Clark Marcia Curtis George Davis James Gerbracht John Gravesenm Carlin Kindig Lester Laffoon Steven Lane Irvin Latta John Lawrence David Legan Charles Leitzow Nancy Lyons Nancy McCoy Rosemary Miller Cheryl Morton Kristin Odle Larry Pickett Caren Rathbun Dianna Schuster Inga Spangler Steven Waling Mari Ann We The third grade, taught by Miss Amy H, Cooper, Brook, Indiana, is a group of lively, alert young- sters with thirty-three enrolled. It is one of the largest classes in the school and represents a wide range of interests and abilities. The chief difficulty is the variation in maturity which impairs speed and pro- gress. The younger group are prone to be discouraged by the ease and excellence of the older pupils' achievement and the older ones are sometimes over confident and inclined to become inattentive and careless. They are striving to overcome this difficulty and to learn independent study habits, tolerance, helpfulness and dependability. They have learned to live together harmoniously and all enjoy their school-work. They have a lovely big room with ample space for their activities. Best of all they have enjoyed their room library with a wide variety of interesting books to fit their reading abilities and needs. They like to do tests in all subjects, especially sixty-word tests. They like to play baseball and all out-door games. 50 SECOND GRADE Joyce Akers James Bower Ronald Budde Chucky Danruther Normagene Ervin Karen Gravesen Robert Hancock Bruce Harriman v Carol Hiestand O L 7 , J Dinah Hollingsworth Linda Kindig Karl Kleinkort Mike Maxson Ronnie Lyons Randy Schmitz James Miller J f (S. Mrs. Charles Curts became an assistant for the remainder of the year. In November Deborah Harvey and Joseph came to our room from Wolcott, increasing the enrollment to thirty-nine. All the boys and girls performed in a little operetta called, Farmer John's for American Education Week. Some sang solo parts, some had talking parts, while others did the actions. All sang in the cho- ruses. During Thanksgiving vacation Phillip DePoy withdrew to move to Atlanta, Georgia, making the en- rollment thirty-eight.
