Frank is a senior from Mainhausen West Germany, near the city of Frankfurt, where he lives with his family of five. In his reactions to this country, Frank saio that in Germany there is more transportation to get around. In Germany they do not eat as many sandwiches as we do, but they have basic meals. Frank likes pies because in Germany they have only cakes. Mark Losinski, the team’s leading rusher, and Maurice Skinner, the strong linebacker, were also recognized. John Horkey was named 'Viking of the Year’ for his very fine season. FOOTBALL 125 C Team Beats Own Record Moffett Places in Districts This year's Cross-Country team learned and improved a great deal. The team, consisting of 5 juniors and 1 sophomore should come back next year with a great advantage While they won only 6 out of 14 meets, they placed 5th at both the Quincy and Vicksburg Invi-tationals. A strong performance was again noted from Marty Moffett, as he ended up his fine season by placing 15th in regionals. 126 CROSSCOUNTRY VARSITY WINS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP FINISHES WITH A 19-6 RECORD Members of the 1978-79 varsity boys basketball team are: front row — Bill Cary. Mike Pierson. Mark Odisher. Todd Hansman. Rick Outwater. Marty Moffett, and Joe Beck: back row — Coach Bill Zabonick. Bob VanVorst, Todd German, Terry Shiery, Leonard Kibilo-ski, Kevin Bucklin, Managers Tony Hyska and Keith Craven. Winning their third straight district title, and the fifth in the last six years, Bronson’s varsity won the championship with a 46-29 victory over Quincy. This followed the 66-60 victory over Union City (Remember Leonard's slam-dunk???) and the 87-51 stomping over Homer. An extra special treat about this year’s district tournament was that it took place in Bronson, making victory taste that much more sweet. Then on to Regionals (Once again held at Jackson Parkside). Bronson, the only team returning to the tournament, had high hopes for going a long way. Unfortunately, they were defeated in the championship game against undefeated Clinton, after Bronson's victory over Stockbridge in their opening game of the tournament. The talent was certainly there for a state championship, between Coach Bill Zobonick and the players. Bill Carey, one of the three seniors, was the only member of the team to achieve all-state honorable mention. This year's tri-captains were Terry Shiery, senior; Mark Odisher, a second year varsity junior; and Joe Beck junior. Next year should prove to be as good if not better season than this for only three seniors are to be lost. BOYS'BASKETBALL 127 Members of the 1978-79 junior varsity basketball team are front row — Matt Houghton, Duane McKerchie, Kim Eichler, Todd Smith, Ken Smoker and Brian Wotta; back row — Coach Keith Dykman, Grant Wonders, Rick Butters, Curt Clemens. Joe Aleman, Jim Sexton. Russ Litzau and Manager Keith Craven JUNIOR VARSITY This year’s junior varsity team, under the leadership of Coach Keith Dykman, finished their season by beating a much taller White Pigeon team 72-67, finishing their season with an impressive 14-6 record. Throughout their season the jayvees showed consistency and only once lost two games in a row. Two of these boys were chosen for tournaments this year: Matt Houghton and Russ Litzau. Although they don't get much recognition, the freshman basketball team works just as hard as the other two teams. Coach Mike Miller's team finished with a solid 7-8 record, playing the majority of the teams from class B. These boys should be interesting to watch as they progress in the years to come. This year’s team captains were Maurice Skinner and Mark Losinski. The winner of the Clark Walker Award went to Mark Losinski, with his impressive 33-7 record. 130 WRESTLING WRESTLING 131 The Varsity Volleyball team had a disappointing season of 4 wins and 13 losses. Not present — Mike Pierson. If one were to take a look at this year's statistics it is very obvious that they were hard hitters. The team's average was .279, with four regulars topping .300 (Joe Beck — 369; Terry Shiery — .359; Mark Odisher — .347; and Rex Bercaw— .330). Two members of the squad were named to the All-Region team: Terry Shiery (senior) as a first baseman, and Joe Beck (junior) as an infielder. Next year's team should have plenty of experience due to the fact that only two of the members were seniors. 138 BASEBALL JA YVEES GET IT TOGETHER Members of the JV baseball team include: back row — Coach Jim Modert, Brian Wotta. This year's J.V. team finished with a successful 8-6 record. Toward the season it was questionable whether the boys could pull out with a better than .500 season. Future Farmers of America is the national organization of, by and for students of vocational agriculture. The F.F.A. has been an important part of the public school system since 1928. The F.F.A. is an intra-curricular activity and requires a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory activities and home supervised farm projects. The Bronson F.F.A. is considered by many as the most active organization in the school. The chapter participates in the many leadership and skills contests provided by the State F.F.A. Association. The Chapter also is active in many community service activities. The Chapter has won many local and state awards during the year. The annual Parent and Student F.F.A. Banquet is the highlight of the year. Over 300 people attended the banquet held in St. Mary’s Gym. Julie Hollister made local F.F.A. history by being elected the first girl president. The Bronson F.F.A. was chartered in 1934 and has built a great tradition during the last forty-five years. 148 FFA F.F.A. Do you remember the times of your life.. . 164 REFLECTIONS Yesterday’a a Memory Yesterday's a memory; tomorrow just a dream. Today I dream of yesterday and what tomorrow may bring. Remember all the fun you've had and sorrows will seem few. Think of all the friends you've made and things you have yet to do. Leaving love and fun behind in search of something more, I once heard a wise man say, search behind each closed door. . . Different lives may lie ahead, things I know not of. It takes special people to produce a yearbook and newspaper. People who are dedicated to compiling a pictorial history of each school year. People who work beyond the required time to get advertising. People who are willing to work together for a common cause. People who use their imaginations to create reality. The Viking Publications' Staff of 1978-79 was comprised of such people. And, as advisor, I owe these young men and women a special thanks. They have produced an exceptional book of Memories” that will be a thing to treasure always. In addition, my staff and I would like to acknowledge with our deepest and sincerest appreciation the efforts put forth by so many others who have helped make your Viking MEMORIES and LEGEND possible: Mrs. Diane Bolton, advisor; Judy Herman and Lee Bonecutter, MEMORIES editor and assistant editor; Deb Yesh and Jim Losinski, LEGEND editor and assistant editor; Lee Bonecutter and Bob Pranga, staff photographers; Rosie Ratkowski, advertising coordinator; Judy Baldwin and Bethany Garman, business managers; MEMORIES staff; LEGEND staff; Mr. Lee Zimmerman and Taylor Publishing Co.; Mr. Bob Conway and Skylight Studio; advertisers; Mr. Ray Smith of the BRONSON JOURNAL; students and faculty of Bronson High School. All I know for sure, my friend, This world is made of love. Remember me, as I'll remember you. Perhaps we ll meet again. If not, I'll cherish dreams forever and memories to the end. — Tina Barr «
