Class Hlstory I.N OURSELVES OUR FUTURE LIES In each of the young, un pohshed freshmen gathered for the fll'St class meetmg of the class of 1956 was a promlse of a brlght future As we mdulge m a few nostalglc memor1es of the four years that most of these freshmen have spent together xn Bronson Hlgh, we realxze that we have enrxched those brxght future years w1th not only the knowledge acquired 1n our classrooms, but w1th lastmg frxendshrps as well That year we were freshmen was an adventure, from 1n1t1at1on to counselmg day Our offrcers were Phrl Htmebaugh presrdent Davxd Travls, vrce presrdent, Sh1r1ey Holhster, secretary Ross Byers, treasurer, Manlynn Paul and jerry Nowak, student council representatlves, and CORDIS Polczynskx, assembly commlttee representatlve We became acqualnted w1th each other and the customs of hrgh school, and wrth the necessxty of earnmg money for our 0bJ6Ct1V6S, the Prom and the Senxor Trxp Offxcers for our sophomore year were Ph1l H1mebaugh presxdent, jerry Houghton, v1ce presrdent, Marrlynn Paul, secretary, Betty Horkey treasurer, Gretchen Cuyler and jean Rlerson, student council representatlves, and David Travls, assembly commxttee representative Begmnmg to realxze how short our stay tn hlgh school was to be, we settled down to make money ln earnest Wlth all kmds of class prog ects to work on, we also began to study in earnest, for to graduate would take more than money Soon we were Jumors We were busler by far than ever before Our all xmportant money makmg projects mcluded sellmg refreshments at home games, baked goods sales sellmg peanut brittle, and havmg cake raffles Our 0ff1Ce1'S were Ph11 Hxmebaugh, presldent, john Arundel, vlce presxdent Dune Kehoe, secretary Bob Smoker, treasurer, Judy Martln and Charles Bertsch, student councll representatlves, and jerry Nowak, assembly commlttee representative When we recelved our class rmgs, we thought they were the most beautxful any class had ever ordered Our play 'Mr Co ed was another proud achxevement, as was the Prom Theme of the banquet and dance was 'Dreamland Suddenly we were senlors Wlth our mam f1nanc1al objective our semorr trzp, we had baked goods sales, car washes, scrap drrves sold Chrlstmas cards, and took magazine subscrlptrons, dedlcatmg nearly every Saturday to our class We elected as offlcers Ph1l Hlm ebaugh, presldent, Ross Byers, v1ce president, Ruth Ann Gregg, secretary, Wxlma Mernman, treasurer, Norma Hopklns and Gretchen Cuyler, student council representatxves, and Marjorie Hovda, assembly comrnlttee representatxve We began to work on our annual early ln the year Other lmportant events throughout the year were gettlng our semor ptctures, and producmg another play Another mght of stardust and happy memorres, thrs tlme 1n our honor, was the 1956 Prom As we enjoyed the tmp we had worked long and hard for, we began to reallze just how near our brlght future was We returned to baccalaureate, class day and graduatlon Graduatlou mght of endmgs and of larger begmmngs Night of regret for the now past happy hours spent ln htgh school, night of smrles and brlght hope for what lles ahead We truly beheve that our future hes rn ourselves, and we beheve that future w1l1 be full of good tlungs, for we be11eve rn ourselves, our country, and most of all we bel1eve 1n God Wrlma Merrl man Q 1 . - : y 5 ' 5 ' . . . . : , . . . , . - . . l . - - , . : . 3 5 . Honor Students .f CAROL ANN PEARCE JERRY HQUGHTON BETTY LOU HORKEY Valediotorian of the Class of 1956 was Carol Ann Pearce Carol had a fmal average of 4 0 She 1S the daughter of Mr and Mrs Gerald Pearce Carol has partlclpated in many extra curricular activities such as, band, choir, Speech Club Thespians, Junior and Senior Class plays, Speech plays, and Treasurer of the Student Council In the fall Carol plans to attend Michigan State University Jerry Houghton is a well known student to h1S classmates in Bronson High School and he has been very active in sports throughout h1s school years This year Jerry was named Salutatorian of his class Jerry has also participated 111 many extra activities such as track and baseball, and vice president of his class m h1s sophomore year Betty Lou Horkey was Historian of the graduating class of 1956. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Horkey. Betty attended St. Marys during her early school years and came to Bronson High School as a freshman.
