I Q k v fi el . . fr r if gh fi A va v tl , fr xx - 1 fl , 1 W . e ,VX V ' X If X .xr -- Psi V fi wk' ' A , i ll f f-all v w : L Z? ft 1 V n JN ,1,li, -.X : ,Ol lst! 7-1 far.-',f!H.... - L I Q 1 Q Class I-llstory ln the fall of i942 twenty one green freshmen enrolled at B H S to start their high school career Class officers were president Joan Page vice president Helen Stover secretary treasurer Marian Thompson student council representatives Bobby Clayton and Shirley Ramsey Mrs Uleta Shultz was sponsor and Miss Sadie Merritt co sponsor Their first social event was a Baby Party at the school house in honor of the senior class The first business adventure of the class was the sale of magazine subscriptions sponsored by the Curtis Publishing Company The class proved to be very efficient salesmen with subscriptions amounting to Sl l8 50 When the class returned for the sophomore year their total was fif teen Class officers were president Joan Pag vice president Betty Wol ford secretary treasurer Marian Thompson student council representatives Harold Perry and Mary Frances Reagan Mrs Uleta Shultz was again sponsor and Mr T E Osborn co sponsor The junior year was o very busy ard happy one The enrollment was thirteen Joan Page was elected president for her third cor-secutive Year Shirley Ramsey v ce president Mary Frances Reagan secretary Betty Wolford treasurer Lorraine Clemings and Shirley Rams y student council representatives Mrs Norma Smith was sponsor The junior play Those Phinney Girls was presented November l6 at the auditorium before a large audience. A pie supper sponsored by the junior class was given February 7. The climax of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet given at the School house May 3. A patriotic theme was carried out in decorations and program. A very good time was enjoyed by all. For the senior year thirteen returned to complete their school. Offi- cers were: president Shirley Ramsey- vice-president Betty Wolford' secre- tary-treasurer Marion Thompson' student council representatives Kenneth Finfrock and Joan Page' class reporter Norma Jean Roof. Mr. E. W. Jenkins was sponsor. Their play Strictly Formal was presented March l5 at the audi- torium before one of the largest audiences in several years. Yfff'ffM'fffff.Afmsaun?A L Pfgphecy lllontunuseull After I had selected a suut we went to vusut old B H S The old buuld ung us stull there but ut us used for the grades alone now and there are several new buuldungs used for hugh school I found the pruncupal of the grade school to be Joan Page Reagan Pat has been tryung for years to get her to guve up teachung and stay at home but she Iukes her work too well to guve ut up even for hum She untroduced me to her chuldren Pa trucuo Johnny Leo Irus and Joe I vusuted the hugh school buuldungs and found Mr Jenkuns stull teachung Amerucan hustory and makung some very worthwhule experuments un the buology laboratory He us now tryung to fund a way to put atoms back to gether after they have been splut Next we went to vusut the new army camp near Bronson The com mondung offucer met us to escort us around the camp and we found hum to be none other than General Kenneth Funfrock Was I surprusedl Kenny must have Iuked the Army better than he thought he would The gurls stull flock after hum lust as they dud un hugh school Madge Lukely us hus pruvate secretary She even uouned the WAC so that she could get the uob I no tuced that Kenny s haur seemed to be very wavy I dudn t remember ut beung that way when he was un school Then the truth came out He has Madge fux ut up un pun curls every day Before I left to return to my home I decuded to go to a movue I went to the Crystal Palace the largest th ater un Bronson The gorgeous bru nette sellung tuckets us Lorene Woodward Short She and Shorty now have that Iuttle house across from the school house that he told us about at venuent for the chuldren goung to school I went unto the theater and sat down Soon the show sta ted and I could hardly belueve my eyes There on th screen was the world s most loved star Maruan lDumplesJ Thompson co starred wuth the heart throb of every bobby sox fan Bud Camac Maruan has grown more beautuful as tume has passed and has succeed d very well u-1 keepung her youth She doesnt look a day older now than the day she graduated from Bronson Hugh She us very happuly marrued and enuoys her work un the movues very much I would have enloyed the movue much more uf there had not been a woman suttung un front of me wuth a tall hat on She seemed vaguely famuluar but I couldn t quute place her untul the lughts went on and I saw her face It was Shurley Ramsey Woodcock Herbert was there too and theur three chuldren They are stull luvung on the farm and people do say that Herbert us terrubly hen pecked I enjoyed my vacatuon very much and resolved to keep un closer con tact wuth these old fruends un the future I returned to my home and to my work un the shop but I am Iookung forward eagerly to the comung sprung when the class of 46 are resolved to meet on the old school grounds I am sure that a v ry happy tume us un store for all of us A Je K 'X . ,Ze . . Chili was served in the lunch room to the athletes the faculty the pep club and the bus drivers by the Homemaking ll girls and their instructor Miss Yencic. Five tables were decorated to represent football basketball and softball fields. The school colors white and purple were also used. Everyone joined in yelling and the singing of the school song led by the cheer leaders. The gro-up enjoyed the afternoon roller skating in the Fort Scott Hilltop Roller Rink. A, 1 ,, I J . - V V ,, A' Camlval The all school carnival was held November I6 at the high school lt was attended by an unusually large crowd The proceeds were to be di vided among the various departments of the school The Minstrel Show given by the gurls glee club and seven boys was directed by Mrs Sanders The show consisted of both speaking and sing ing parts Those who had speaking parts in the Gabby Cadus mnnstrel were Euleta Hillman Wanda Miller Norma Jean Roof Joan Pag Pauline Muntzert Audrey Miller Marian Thompson and Irene Willits Two of the seven boys were dressed as clowns Another main feature was the Midget Show given by the primary room and their teacher The characters were Johnnie Sanders the announcer Denny West the cry baby Joe Dawson the clown Judy Kuns the opera singer Audrey Swisher Bobby Elrod Joe Dawson Judy Kuns and Johnnie Sanders gave the Dance With a Dolly The Ladies Show directed by Miss Hamilton was given by the follow ing senior girls Betty Wolford Wanda Miller Virginia Johnson Marian Thompson Joan Page Norma Jean Roof and Shirley Ramsey They were dressed as spinsters holding the regular meeting of the Spinster Ladies Built for Two and Virginia Woodcock gave a reading Other entertainments were girls boxing match and crazy house spon sored by the sophomores fortune telling and bingo stand sponsored by the seniors penny pitch sponsored by the seventh and eighth grade room fish pond by the primary room dart board by the junior class doll rack by the freshman class A large number took part in the several cake walks A nice blanket was given to the lucky number which was drawn by Mr. Joe Rnfe and a large turkey was drawn by Mrs. John Hilton. M. Burtch was the best guesser on the jar of corn and won the teapot. At eleven oclock the carnival King and Queen were crowned by Mar- ian Thompson president of the Student Council. Joan Page and Herbert Woodcock were crowned. ' G' 'El bfi -cf H c V 1 M, V School Lunch The school lunch project continued their much needed services this year by serving their first hot lunch on September 4 The work was a Federal project Hot lunches consisting of meat or a substitute a fresh vegetable one hot dish milk and fruit were served for l5c The meals were successfully prepared by Mrs Cora Love and Mrs E H Hussey A few of the students helped by selling tickets and doing num erous other small jobs They served approximately 75 meals per day Miss Frances Yencic supervised the reports and did accounting work of the project Boys Glee Club Eleven boys enrolled in glee club and although they got a late start in music they have made up for the time lost The club sang numbers at the junior pie supper the mlnstrel and the operetta Love Pirates of Hawau They also sang in the mixed chorus for local services and baccalaureate and commencement GIIIS Glee Club The girls glee club deserve a great deal of credit for their part in musical events There are twenty two girls singing this year They have shown their singing talent at the junior ple supper church revival minstrel P T A programs operetta and commencement Crchestra A large percentage of credlt IS due Mrs Hattie Sanders for getting a school orchestra once again The orchestra consists of both grade and hugh school students They have been diligent in practices and have played at P T A pro grams church revlvals junior ple supper the munstrel and for commence ment 49 Q ll as A f f h 4 N 41 ' A ' x ' I In Q: , .
