Homes in a foreign land Four foreign exchange students called Broken Bow ‘home’ during the 1986-87 school year. Gilda Chavez arrived in Broken Bow prior to the school year. Unlike many foreign exchange students, Gilda was aware of the community and it’s customs. Gilda's older sister, Anna, had been an exchange student in Broken Bow a year earlier. She makes her home in Mexico. Sune Kehlet from Denmark also arrived in Broken Bow during the first semester. While in the states Sune also enjoyed traveling to Chicago, IL and various parts of California. Two of his favorite souvenirs from the Broken Bow area were an old cowboy hat and a pair of cowboy boots. The last foreign exchange student to arrive at BBHS during the first semester was Javier Gonzales. Javier came to Broken Bow from Spain. While attending BBHS Javier was active in several clubs and was a member of the cross country team. The last exchange student to arrive was Tom Hodgson. Tom’s home is in Australia. Tom was an active member of the musical cast his first semester at BBHS. Unlike the other exchange students that made Broken Bow their home during the 1986-87 school year, Tom remained in Broken Bow until January of 1988.
