This year a junior Bill Books ended up being the top scorer followed closely by his teammates David Bales, and Steve Scott. The biggest personal accomplishment was that of winning a second place medal in our conference meet received by Bill Books. The Broken Bow Invitational brought in some tough competition. 83 1977-78 CROSS COUNTRY TEAM — (Front) Randy Ernst, Monte Scofield, Randall Smith, Rex Baillie, John Sweenie, Doug Crouch. The Basketball team received the honor of playing in the State Basketball Tournament for the first time since 1972. THe new head coach, Dan Hilton, lead the team to District victories and to State. The most exciting game of the season was the last game of the District Tournament when we beat Loup City. With the score tied and one second left Brad Peterson made a thirty-foot jump shot to win the game. The season ended with a 14-5 record and a 5-2 Conference record. The team won several conference honors and Senior Les Adelung was named as Most Valuable Conference Player. Jeff Briggs set a new school record in the high jump at the height of 6'5 , Chris Kasselder tied the record in the highs with the time of 14.6, and the 880 relay sprinted around the track in 1.32.0. Forty-five B. B. H. S. students were assisted by a few students from Callaway, Ansley, Anselmo-Merna, and Sargent. Together they produced the hour show each week, and they kept it the number one ranking teen-produced radio show in the state of Nebraska. This year was a politically explosive year in Broken Bow, and the political climate provided CONCORD reporters a wealth of worthwhile news material. The whole community profited from the efforts of student reporters to make the public aware of local issues. The week before is a rush job to tie up loose ends preparing for the big night, the Senior tea, practicing, Class Night, checking out and finally leaving the halls that have become so familiar. It is now they begin a new time in life leavbehing memories of good times shared with friends at BBHS. The class of 1978 colors were Dark and Light Blue, they picked a blue tipped Mum as the flower ana they choose The Higher We Climb, The Broader The View as their motto. The time has finally come for the big night of graduation, the world is your's graduate. 148 After Class Night let's hope Arpy and Brent avoid discussing Baseball The Senior girls give their version of a typical bus ride.
