WARRIOR I97S Broken Bow Junior-Senior High School FOREWORD Everyone knows the yearbook was designed to recall memories of their Junior and Senior High School years. These remembrances include exciting, anticipated events - such as waiting for the results of Homecoming King and Queen, anticipating which class will win the Homecoming display, and probably the most exciting event of all, the Junior-Senior Prom. There are also memories of things not so exciting -small, unimportant things to some people - but memories just the same to others. Some of you may have singed your hair or eyebrows while working with bunsen burners in Mr. Cupl’s room, some of you may have had fun while practicing for the next performance (above and center photos), and some of you may have surprised everyone by actually learning sometliing (lower right photo). It is certain that each and every one of you have your own unique memories. 2 The annual staff invites you to look through our Warrior and recall some of these memories. TABLE OF CONTENTS ACTIVITIES ADMINISTRATION SPORTS CLASSES STUDENT LIFE ADVERTISING FACULTY ORGANIZATIONS STUDENT LIFE Student life in Broken Bow High includes many things. It includes waiting in the long, lingering, and often times lively lunch line. It also includes relaing in the halls between classes, cheering at pep rallies, and participating in a wide variety of extra -curricular activities. 6 9 10 BOARD OF EDUCA TION The Broken Bow Board of Education is made up of Dr. A. L. Jones. President: Mr. Royce Ferguson, Vice-President; Mr. Howard Hanson, Secretary: Mr. Charles Giles, Treasurer: Mrs. Naomi Armstrong, and Dr. Fred Kottemeyer (Below). Newly elected board members for this year are Dr. Ron Simmons and Mr. Jim Girardin (Right). 12 The youih of today live in a world that is characterized by rapid scientific and social changes. For this reason the role of the school is more important than ever before in helping shape the future. It is my hope that each member of our student body may be able to look back on the days in B.B.H.S. and recall many pleasant memories and satisfying experiences. These recollections should be pleasant memories accompanied with a realization that they were a pan of preparation for a prosperous and meaningful life. I am sure that this yeaook will serve as a valuable collection of memories. R. Hanson, Superintendent Congratulations to the Annual Staff and the Class of 1975. You have made a fine annual filled with a true and happy picture of Broken Bow High School. Every owner of this annual will find many hours of enjoyment between these covers. I would also like to wish the Class of 1975 success. May your years spent in Broken Bow High School prove to be beneficial to a life of prosperity and happiness. Good Luck and Best Wishes, Keith Wade, Principal Congratulations to the Class of 75 and may all your endeavors in life be successful. Congratulations to the Annual Staff on a fine publication that will hold forever the joys of school life during the past year. L. Stithem Vice-Principal Director of Activities 13 MEET OUR FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT Cesar Ruelas is a foreign exchange student at Broken Bow High School for 1974-75. He is sixteen years old and conies from Los Mochis Sin., Mexico. The population of this town is about 120,000 people. Los Mochis is a town located on the west coast of Mexico about 100 miles north of the Tropic of Cancer. The climate, becasuse of the sea, is hot in the summer and mild in the winter. Basically, one can swim the year around, except for the coldest winter days. Cesar's family consists of his parents and a twelve year-old brother. His father operates a cattle business and supermarket. Cesar compares American and Mexican schools and comments: American and Mexican schools differ in many ways. The principal difference between them are - (1) Mexican students spend the day in one classroom, while American students go to different classrooms. (2) Mexican students do not have a lunch period. However, between each class they have a rest period of fifteen minutes. During this time they can go to the cafeteria and eat, play, or study. We asked Cesar how he liked being a foreign exchange student and he said: Last year when my mom told me about the exchange program, I took the chance and I'm here now. The most important reason I wanted to be an exchange student was to learn how other people live and speak - I wanted to learn another language. It's great to be an exchange student. I'm really delighted to be here in Broken Bow, and I'll always thank the families who I stayed with, my teachers, and my schoolmates for all the help they have given me. I won’t forget this time here in all my life. u GERALD ANSON: Mathematics, Junior High Fooball CHERYL ANDERSON: Vocational Home Economics BILL BLACKBURN: Social Studies, 9th Grade Basketball, Junior High Football MARY COSTELLO: Spanish. When kids came back to school after Christmas vacation, it was kind of hard to get back into the regular grind of school. So interim was designed to give the kids a chance to learn something different from classes taught during the school year. As you can see from these two pages, interim offers a wide variety of classes to choose from: chess, candlemaking, sewing (for boys), and even taxidermy. Most Broken Bow students will agree that interim is a welcome break. Radio Programming students read through script. Last year's King Keith Ellis congratulates the new Homecoming King, Steve Neth. Homecoming Queen Cindy Nova is congratulated by last year's King. Keith Ellis. 92 A bonfire Is always held as part of the Homecoming festivities. Homecoming is one of the main events in B.B.H.S. The week of Homecoming is filled with spirited activities-ranging from Sock-It-To-'Em Day to Hair Dare Day.. On Thursday night, before the game, a huge bonfire is held and the cheerleaders lead the student body downtown for a pep rally. The main attraction is the election of the Homecoming King and Queen. Candidates are elected from six different organizations and then are announced during half-time of the game. To top off the festivities, a dance is held afterwards. Most students look forward to this annual event. Melissa Kasselder and Bill Root were elected from Choir 93 Kim Bohy and Steve Peters were elected from B-Club. Kim Kennedy and Kevin Brush were elected from Karen Johnson and Marvin Kleeb were elected from Vocational Clubs. Sioux Club. SENIOR SPEECH CLASS PRODUCES OUR TOWN George (B. Prescott) and Emily (R. A high school should produce OUR TOWN at least once every ten years. Not only does it allow the students to see a script they've read come alive, but it is a challenging experience as well. The great challenge was not the lines as one might expect, but rather a large cast (30) in such a small stage as the one at Tiffany Theater. As production neared, both director and cast lost sleep wondering if it would be ready on time. The last performance proved this success as both students and adults enjoyed the play. Compliments go to Kevin, Ruth, Bill, and many others on their fine performance. PROM 1975 — STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN The theme of this year's prom was Stairway to Heaven and the late arrival of the boys and girls from the Lex Invitational Track meet, where they had won, made the starry evening more delightful. At the Banquet Dr. Hanson delivered a humorous about school life, Mrs. Ullrich whistled a story, and Ken Agena played the piano. Later, dance music was provided by CRANK. Earlier that week the Juniors were disappointed because the right color of crepe paper did not arrive, but the decorations were beautiful. Upon entering one walked through two white pillars, under a ceiling of multicolored paper. In the center of the gym a winding silver staircase caught one's eye. The banquet was delicious and entertainment was provided by the Freshman Swing Choir accompanied by Miss Gurney on the piano. Rev. Dan Flanagan gave a short speech during the dinner on the responsibility of education. After the tables were cleared away Blackberry Winter played as the couples danced around the beautifully decorated gym. An orange spaceship built by Scott Spanel and his dad was the main attraction. Blue and white crepe paper adorned the ceiling and walls. She holds street meetings where Nathan Detroit and his cronies hang out. Nathan is the operator of a floating crap game that is temporarily homeless because of Officer Brannigan. Miss Adelaide, a singer at the Hot Box, is tired of her fourteen year engagement to Nathan. If Nathan can raise $1,000 he can get a place for the game, so he places a $1,000 bet with Sky Masterson that he can name a Doll that will not go to Havana with Sky.
