FRED KOTTEMEYER Can you think of another year or another time to be graduating that promises more excitement, more opportunity or more future than 1974? We've just finished a year that saw the end of the draft, that saw the United States get out of conflict abroad. We've just started a year that promises a more humanistic society, a government with less corruption and an attitude in our citizens that indicates optimism. Not that we haven't had and won’t continue to have problems, but you'll have a bona fide opportunity to plan your own futures with less negativism than young people have experienced for several decades, in 1974, the generation gap is being put into an enlightened perspective and I have a hunch tnat by the time you and your classmates achieve your individual futures, you’ll have helped make this troubled world a more desirable place for young people, for all of us, to be. Dr. Foster, Superintendent Congratulations to the staff of the 1974 WARRIOR. You have done a fine job capturing a true picture of life in BBHS. I am sure you will bring many hours of pleasure from the memories recorded here . I would like to commend the seniors on a very good year, may you always treasure your time in BBHS. I also encourage the underclassmen to m a k e every effort to build a sound foundation for the future. Do your best today and reap the benefits tomorrow. Good Luck, Keith Wade, Prin. Congratulations to the graduating class of 1974. May all of your endeavors in the future be successful. Louis Stithem, Vice-Principal, Dir. of Activities In Appreciation The members of the Annual Staff would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Mr. JOE CUPL, in liis last year associated with the WARRIOR. For more than two decades he has contributed countless hours and given many helpful suggestions to the number of students who have participated in putting the annual together. Anyone who has worked on the annual knows that patience and cooperation are needed to make it successful. MR. CUPL has made all this possible. A lthough this is but a small token of our gratitude, we extend our sincerest thanks to you, MR. CUPL. - Past and Present Staffs, LAUREL WRIGHT - Editor RHONDA WHITESEL - Co-Editor 10 FACULTY MRS. MILLS Industrial Education HISTORY OF AN INDIAN TRIBE by Cheri Blossom Mattox Once upon a time, there was a group of rowdy young Indians just doing what they wanted to, until the Great Spirit MONA descended upon them. She decided that the tribe needed some leadership. Chosen as the tribe's chief was BILL Buffalo, with Medicine man RUFF'n Tuff, and Painter Shawnee SCOTT to help him keep on the right trail. The Sacred Indian Council members were BILL Busted Arrow, KEITH Spotted Horse, and DON Dancer. All went fine for about a year until some of the other warriors wanted a chance to be chief. The Great Spirit of Smoke, Buffalo Cigar watched over them at this time. DON Dancer was chosen to be chief, along with his Squaw, ESTHER Crazy Horse acting as Medicine man. The Painter was LORI Blackhawk with WENDY War Paint as Bead-maker. Members of the Sacred Indian Council were KEITH Spotted Horse, CINDY Peace Pipe, Moccasin YANTZIE, GARY Geronimo, and CAROLYN Cochise. During this time came the invasion of the pale faces. Many warriors were needed along with a new war council. Standing close beside DON Dancer as Chief was LORI Blackhawk, Medicineman, PEG Pocahontas, Painter, and Shawnee SCOTT, Bead-maker. The War Council assisted the Chief in many ways. It consisted of GREGG RUFF'n Tuff, Happy Hunting KIM, CINDY Peace Pipe, KEITH Spotted Horse, BILL Buffalo, and CAROLYN Cochise. The Great Spirit Sitting Bull STITHEM was pleased with the tribes success against the enemies. Succeeding DON Dancer as Chief the next year was LORI Blackhawk, with ESTHER Crazy Horse the Medicine man, and TERRY Tomahawk, the Painter. This was peacetime, and during peacetime a large Council was not needed. This year it merely consisted of BILL Buffalo, CINDY Peace Pipe, KEITH Spotted Horse, Happy Hunting KIM, with the Great Spirit, Wampam KORTE watching over them. The next year brought TERRY Tomahawk to the position of Chief ruling over this tribe of great warriors. Blackfoot HART asssisted him in any way possible and PEG Pocahontas sure did her part for the big Indian Dance in the Moonlight, to honor the gods (seniors). Beadmaker MARK Red Cloud also had his hands full counting and keeping track of all the beads we made selling moccasins the year before. But, alas, we can't forget the 86 other tribal members and their help in the celebration to the gods. Surefoot SWEENIE voiced his opinion several times, and as you know, whatever the Great Spirit says, goes. As many moons have gone by, the once young and rowdy tribe has become older and it is time for their passing on. During their last year as leaders for the many Papooses under them, they have chosen ESTHER Crazy Horse as Chief, MARK Red Cloud as Medicine man, TERRY Tomahawk as Painter, and DANN Sugarfoot as Beadmaker. The members of the Sacred Indian Council that try to guide the way for the upcoming young Papooses are KEITH Spotted Horse, CINDY Peace Pipe, CAROLYN Cochise, MIKE Goldenrod, BILL Buffalo, Happy Hunting KIM, PEG Pocahontas, and RANDY Rushing Water. The Great Spirit Wigwam WADE has already been making plans for this Indians tribe of 1974 to pass on to bigger and better things and for this he shall not be forgotten. Good times were numerous and many new friends were gained. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who were involved in helping put this year's Warrior together. Without their help, there would not have been an annual. First of all, we would like to thank Mr. CUPL and Mr. PIERCEALL, our annual sponsors. They contributed many hours of their time and showed much patience with our staff. We would also like to thank the Broken Bow merchants, who purchased the advertisements. These are greatly needed to make the Warrior a financial success. The Custer County Chief also deserves thanks for giving us photos and action shots. We extend our deepest thanks to the BAKER STUDIO for their time spent taking our club and activity photos. Other studios contributing senior portraits were Landgren Studio, Ray Marshall Studio, Jack Bailey Studio, Raymond Studio, and Don Bartelt Studio. Finally, we would like to thank Mrs. BIRDIE OLSON for her bookkeeping help on the annual. 168 RHONDA WHITES EL Co-Editor A- ' , v % f , c 4 I • t 4 4
