TABLE OF CONTENTS N Jg In Memory Of — Ronn David Anderson Ronn David Anderson The Broken Bow Student Body of 1973 dedicates this Yearbook to Ronn David Anderson, a schoolmate of many during his seven years of school. It is in his memory that we honor him. There is never a life without sadness, There is never a heart free from pain; If one seeks in this world for true solace. He seeks it forever in vain. So when to your heart comes the sorrow Of losing some dear one you've known Tis the touch of God's sickle at harvest Since He reaps in die fields. 3 He has sown. Foreword A school building is constructed of steel and cement, but yet there is much more than this. It is made up of anxious and enthusias tic students who year after year stream in waves through the hallways and classrooms. Carl Sandburg in his poem Skyscraper says It is the men and women, boys and girls so poured in and out all day that give the building a soul of dreams, thoughts and memories. As each individual forms a part of the mass, so each personality contributes to the whole of Broken Bow High School. Soon we, the class of 1973, will be leaving this student body. With us we will take our individual dreams, thoughts and memories, many of which we formed in these halls and rooms. Before we leave, we present the 1973 Warrior. Peggy Nelson Co-Editor wHm: 10mm r diiiiaistr§tion. 1972-73 School Board h s°n 6 Messages Admini Dr. Foster Superintendent If you had told me when you asked me to write for the annual that I had just twenty-five words to say it in, I would have written a want ad by Horace Mann; Lost, yesterday, anywhere between sunrise and sunset, two golden hours, each set with sixty diamond minutes. No reward offered, for they are gone forever. If you had told me you wanted words of humor and wisdom I might have quoted Always do right. That would gratify some of the people and astonish the rest. (Mark Twain). If you had wanted my favorite poem I might have quoted If. But you didn't and so I am faced with determining the length of the assignment by myself. I have decided it should be appropriate for the thinking student, appropriate for 1973 and should be one word long. The word is LOVE. 8 From Our stration Mr. Wade Principal Mr. Stithem Vice-Principal I want to offer my congratulations to the class of ”73 and wish to then} the very best of what life has to offer in the years to come. The Annual staff should also be congratulated on the excellent book they have compiled; capturing forever, the events of our Jr. - Sr. High School ALMA MATER In the state is Custer County With its hills and valleys fair to see; There rules the queen of all the prairie, The sovereign majesty. CHORUS: Both purity and strength her colors, Blazen forth upon her banner bright We 11 honor them, and love forever Our glorious Red and White. CHORUS: Then hail to thee our Alma Mater, Hail our high school ever true and strong, Accept as gifts upon thy altar The tribute of our song. CHORUS: Broken Bow, Broken Bow, She’s the greatest high of any that I know, Always pressing onward may her glory ever grow Our honored Alma Mater, Broken Bow, Heigh-O 10 ' I , «£; :' ? •■ v: .;'• . July 1. 1993 Hear Diary, Due to a prolonged illness, I was referred to a special hospital today, the HUSTON Medical ( enter. The administrator and CHAD were one and the same! While speaking with him, I learned he also employed several other of my classmates. Head nurse PEGGY NEI50N, living up to her high school reputation, is completely swamped with medical duties. To help relieve her constant rushing, BECKY OLSON, VICKI HYATT, and CAROL HAL'MONT were chosen as her assistants. TRACEY PETERSON is now employed as a speech therapist, while MIKE SCOFIELD is an intern working on his M.D. DENISE LECK and CONNIE MYERS arc employed in the Kitchen, planning special diets for the patients while we find BILL SEECER is a great help busily peeling spuds. This day sped by as 1 talked with all my old friends and before I knew it. it was time to hit the sack. Tucs. July 2, 1993 Dear Diary, After the dull morning routines, I settled back in bed to sneak a short afternoon nap, only to be awakened by the knock of three old classmates. MICK] ARMBRUSTER, KAREN HENDRICKSON AND SUSAN SMETS. Though not surprised. 1 learned the old BB volleyball stars have made it big in Olympic competition. Through reminiscing with these old friends. I’ve learned the NETH Kin, Al l EN' and NEAL, have developed a large prospering industry which is naturally, called NETH NETH, Inc. I also learned DAVE DENESIA opened up his own Bakery which features the famous Dough Boy. While we find STEVE FINNEY is running a slenderizing camp called I riend Finney's Fat farm. Reaching her life-long goal. LISA HALLER is traveling with a ballet group across the country. Our Class Clown, JON SEIMER has reached his life's ambition as understudy to Hugh Hefner, with RANDY SCHMIDT as his assistant. NANCY NETH. PRISCILLA WILSON, and LISA WALLACE have remained swinging bachelorcttes, of their choice, of course. Exhausted from all the excitement of old friends I settled down for a nap, happy and content. Wed. July 3. 1993 Dear Diary, Tests are still being taken so here I am. Today my mail was brought in by a familiar looking mailman, DAVID ROOT. BLTH REED wrote a short note to tell me that she was working on her 5th PhD. She informed me that her good friend CAROI KAPS has turned to a life of crime slipping through key holes and unlocking doors for her fellow burglars. As an outstanding secretary to I.ES JOHNSON'S million dollar company, GLORIA HARROLD took time out of her busy schedule for a get well wish. She mentioned JACQUE MOGENSEN, SUE 11NER, and CONNIE ANDERSON employed by the firm. LONNIE MclNTOSH wrote that he belongs to Hell’s Angels, but is on a tlucc month probation for losing his black leather Jacket. CRAIG LINK and RANDY HEFFLEFINCER have teamed up in the rock business, with PAM JOHANSEN as their lead singer, in the group. Turtle and her Tortoises. BILL VARNEY, multimillionaire sent me enough flowers to fill two rooms, SCOTT REINHARD'S home foe the Stark Raving Mad reports one of his crazier patients FRED GOV1ER, escaped and is searching for his high school government teacher. CHARLIE GRADY writes that the biggest department store in the world has finally agreed to let him play Santa Claus during the holidays. Well, that takes care of all the action that took place today. Thurs. July 4. 1993 Dear Diary, Since today was a national holiday, 1 didn't receive any mail but I did have some surprising visitors. BOB BREWER and RODNEY ERICKSON dropped in to tell me they arc now working with the police as narcotic agents. MONTE BOWLING, now a missionary repons that PAULA BOWMAN lost her pearl ring 20 years ago and until she finds it, her name will remain the same. BECKY BOOKS runs a small town library called Books' Books . MARY ELLEN BEAL recently had a nervous breakdown when picking hex 12 children up from school, when she couldn't remember which were hers. DAVE MYERS finally got signed up to the Oakland Raiders since he can carry two water buckets at once. BOB BOGGS has invented a new way to make money, the Five B's or Bob Boggs Body Building Beamy Kit. KENT TAYLOR is now a band teacher with 55 members all playing the tuba. GARY CLAY, DEAN THOMAS, JIM LARSEN and DEI THORTON have recently been seen staring in a new soap opera called All For the Love of Cars. PAUL HA1L1CKA has made quite a business in the architectural world. His latest design has been a 9 bedroom dog house. JIM COLEMAN, BUD EBERLF and RAY HUNT arc running the local pub. named The Rustlers' Roost. Before going to bed I turned on the T. V. None other than RANDY WRIGHT was making a speech. Right beside him were KERRY COOKSITY and ALLEN ANTHONY who arc Randy's chief aides. Frl. July 5. 1993 Dear Diary, The mail brought many surprises. MERR1 DAVIS is a top fashion model in New York City. LUELLA SCHWEITZER is Mem's hair stylist, ANN JL'N'GREN her fashion designer and ROBIN H ER her make-up artist. VIRGINIA GLOVER has made her way to fame as a concert pianist. TIM MAYO and RANDY JENKINS, during their wide travels of the Australian plains discovered an animal that can produce plain milk, chocolate milk and hot chocolate all at once. CONNIE CHRISTENSON and GINGER HOOBLER have struck up a partnership and now have their own comic strip. After graduating, MERRICK WH1TESEL began gaining a little excess weight. Wrestling was the only way he knew to shake it. so he joined All Star Wrestling. Recently, aeronaut JERRY MARPLE took off for the Love Planet, Venus, in a self made vessel. Upon arrival he liked it so well, he radioed back to earth to tell them he would not be returning. The government was naturally upset and sent three more astronauts, GREG MARCELl US. STEVE JOYCE and ARLEN BURNETT. Immediately they too decided to stay. KENDRA HOBBS is happily married and living in a housing construction with a special Brand' of contracting. PEGGY MILLS and LYNETTE POPP are working on a face cream that will beautify sagging muscles in the same manner that anti-knock fluid works in a motor. KARLENE FERGUSON and BETH HENSI EY arc saleswomen for a special kind of hosiery advertised as the kind with no hits, no runs, no errors. Rumor has it that TERRY KLAHR is still on top of Ml. Everest after 10 years of solitude. Since leaving BBHS LETA McCASLIN has put her soul into her work. Of course, the shoe business might have something to do with that. After 20 years, TIM TIERNEY and BRAD FERGUSON arc still enjoying the rodeo as rodeo clowns and have also achieved fame by bare back and bronc riding. BRENDA PETERS lias found fame in the great North Artie, as the call Burrrenda resounds across the vast frozen wastelands far into the night. As for me. Dear Diary, good news is in store. Thanks to the medicine provided by hearing from my old BBHS friends, my stay at the Huston Medical Center has come to an end. Yours forever. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY JULIE DEAN Apollo 73 - is the theme for the day of celebration when the class of 73 finishes its quest, their arrival on the moon. The year (1970) - President of Broken Bow of America George M. Miller handed the plans to our manager stating: Build the launching pad for this crew to have a good take off. Work started under supervision of Captain LUCAS of Latvia, Co. Captain HORN of the Hungrians, timer SCHRADER of the Swiss. Co-ordinators were of mixed origin, - Rumanian REED; Welch WRIGHT; Spanish SEIMER; HUSTON of CHAD; and Turk TIERNEY. Our main achievement that year, was the Powder puff B-ball games for the Hospital drive. The second year of the mission (1971) under direction of Kool Korts. Overseers DAVID with Amnesia, SCHMIDT with the Bit, NELSON with the peg-leg. Work promoters IRED GOVIER-da-Hill, BETH-the-REEDer, CHAD-as-HUSTON. TIERNEY-up-TIMid. Winning, being one of our characteristics proven by our overwhelming victory of the Homecoming box contest. The third year (1972) we launched our space craft. Leading us up the ramp to the missile a Basset Hound, barked signals, followed by Turtle T. TIERNEY, bug. M. E. BEAL, Penquin BRENDA PETERS and HORNet-Nanc-HORN. Those at controls Gobblcr-COVIER. SCOTT the Stark. Hipo-HUSTON, Rabbit REED, and Piggy NELSON. Working like busy-bodied creatures to meet our expenditures we sponsored 'The Land Of The Giants. The fourth and final year (1973) the arrival on the moon. To finish the mission, head spokesmen. Hopeful HORN, fugitive B. IERGUSON. Toxy K. IERGUSON, and Starchy SEEGER. Negotiators - Raven REINHARD, Hustlin HUSTON. Wrong WRIGHT. Do-Nothing NELSON. Tootin TIERNEY. Golden GOV1ER, Readied REED, and Super SEIMER. As Apollo 73 crashed on the moon, Mr. Wade dealt his last hand to the crew. Bidding them all farewell as they unloaded and all set out for their moon walks of the mysterious moon. As most take different paths we shall never wish to forget the voyage of Apollo 73. It is about the breaking down of tradition when some people are still trying to uphold them. The action centers around a man and his relationship with his family, his people, the enemies of his people, and of his special relationship with God. It is about pride and dignity, sorrow and oppression. The drama takes place in a small village in Czarist Russia called Anatevka. But, it really takes place everywhere. (1. to r.) : MR. A year of long, hard work, yet we gained many memories and friends. Still we couldn't have published the 73 Warrior without some help. We would like to thank the Broken Bow merchants who, gave support to our yearbook by the purchase of advertising. Without their help we wouldn't have a yearbook. We say a big thank-you to the Baker Studio, who donated their time for everything, from club pictures to athletic photos. We received quality pictures, including senior portraits. We also thank the Custer County Chief, who supplied us with many sports action shots. Other studios contributing senior portraits were Brown Harano Studio, O’Neill Studio, Slocum's Studio, Raymond Photography, Jim Frieze Studio, Jim Lorenson, Anderson Studio, Willson's Studio, and Jack Bailey Studio. We thank Mrs. Birdie Olson, school secretary, for her help with the annual bookkeeping. Our deepest thanks go to Mr. Cupl, our Warrior sponsor, who gave much of his time and patience to our staff. - v.-.v - rs %■ £ V I?V - • ,- ' ., ■ M ?
