Text from Pages 1 - 192 of the 1969 volume:

I We, the WARRIOR Staff of 1969, have found it a challenging task to picture faithfully, for you, these happy, yet fleeting memories of the various school events. We hope that in years hence, while leafing through this book, you will recall with satisfaction and pleasure your experiences in Broken Bow High School. If our WARRIOR fulfills this task to at least a small degree, we shall consider our job accomplished. TABLE OF CONTENTS FOREWORD DEDICATION ALMA MATER ADMINISTRATION FACULTY SENIORS JUNIORS SOPHOMORES FRESHMEN JUNIOR HIGH ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS ADVERTISING t IN MEMORY OF - The Senior Class of 1969 dedicates this WARRIOR in memory of Terry Dell Hosier, who will be remembered as an admirable classmate and friend. It is with deepest sincerity we honor him with this page of remembrance. Not till the loom is silent And the shuttles cease to fly, Shall God unroll the canvas And explain the reason why The dark thread’s are as needful, In the weaver's skillful hand. As the threads of gold and silver In the pattern He has planned. - Anonymous School e ALMA MATER a In the state is Custer County, With its hills and valleys fair to see, There rules the queen of all the prairie In sovereign majesty. Chorus: Broken Bow, Broken Bow, She’s the greatest High of any that I know; Always pressing onward, may her glory ever grow; My honored Alma Mater Broken Bow, Heigh-o! Mater true amt- strong'; to Both purity and strength her colors Blazen forth upon her banner bright; We'll honor them and love fore 3Our glorious RED and WHITE, Acce1 The tribute of our songs. ' j A MESSAGE FROM YOUR A BETTER WORLD CAN BEGIN WITH EACH OF US To build a better world we need to work hard to develop to a high degree our useful talents. Our minds, health, personality and a strong sense of right, and sufficient courage and self discipline to work hard at these problems each day. Our home, school, church, and community are the best class rooms in which to do this work of developing ourselves and our useful talents to high levels. He who makes himself a better person, makes a better world. He who makes his home, school, church, and community a better place in which to live, helps make a better world. He who continually looks for the best in others and gives the best he has, whose life is an inspiration to those around him is making a better world and his memory will be a benediction. 1 challenge each Broken Bow Junior-Senior High student to do his best to help build a better, more wonderful world in which to live. Sincerely, ADMINISTRATION Congratulations to the 1969 Annual Staff. Your portrait of life at Broken Bow High School Is to be commended. You have inscribed your page in the history book of B.B.H.S. This is a great record; yours has been a constructive year that will go into the fond memories of students and faculty alike. Act 1 Scene: within the portals of B.B. H.S., which seem so vast and spacious to the incoming performers. The experienced players know their cues, but the Freshmen wander about aimlessly. Time: Late fall of the term 1965-66. Plot: Some dramatic incidents of this season, such as: making peanut brittle in General Science, winning all but one game in Jr. High football, participating in other extracurricular activities. As a grand finale to this act the entire cast sings the music of The Messiah. Cast of characters: Hero, Marc Dickinson; Feature player, Nick Dean; Ingenue, Cindy Brewer. Plus 118 citizens. Prompters: Darwin Holcomb and Susan Grady. Director: Mr. Korte Act 2 Scfene: remains unchanged Time: Stupendous action of the season: working on Homecoming Cat display, serving as pirates at the Jr. -Sr. Banquet, going to the Twirp Dance. This scene would not be complete without the evening merriment given by the brass sextet. Cast of characters: Hero, Doug Ferguson; Co-star, Nick Dean; Scribe, Opal Ferguson; Tax collector, Susan Grady. Plus 118 others. Prompters: Darwin Holcomb and Susan Grady. Director: Mr. Withee. Act 3 Scene: remains the same Time: Term of 1967-68. Plot: Many more marvelous incidents occur in this act than in the two previous ones. Some are going to County Gov't Day, buying class rings, selling concessions at football games, putting on January Thaw, the Jr. Class play, making soap in Chemistry, hosting the Jr. -Sr. Prom, Midnight Gardens. Cast of characters: Leading star, Doug Ferguson; Understudy, Mark Doty; Football star, Chuck Staab; Starlet, Debby Purcell. Plus 100. Prompters: Arlene Mills and Nick Dean. Director: Mr. Hanson. Act 4 An enthralling climax is reached by players as the curtains open on the fourth and last a t of our presentation. Scene: the same, but the performers are smooth and polished. Time: Term of 1968-69. Plot: Rapid action and clever dialogue characterize this scene. Namely: Leading in many of the school activities, moving into the new school house, being third in the South-West Football Conference, Cindy Brewer and John Farritor reigning as Homecoming Queen and King. Cast of characters: Hero, Doug Ferguson; Leading lady, Cindy Brewer; Heroine, Sonia Esch; Money lord, Chuck Staab. Plus 104. Stage Crew: Tom Cordell, Mike Bell, Michelle Burke, Bill Pearson, Dorsett Plock, and Cathy Guthery. Director: Mr. Cupl. As the play closes the players regret to leave B.B. H.S. to face the bigger world and its problems. We Seniors have ieamed to work and to dream; and our work and our dreams are the better tor having had the associations that high school provides. In athletics, activities, and services of any kind, we have tried always to do a little more than our share; yet, if we £re missed at all we hope it will be as much because of what we were, as well as what we did. High school days will be even more pleasant in looking back, for they will have lost the tang of li tie disappointments, and will take on the glow of all the happy, useful forms the Seniors have known. We will go forth wiser and better men and women than we were when we entered as green and untried Freshmen. With this appreciation, and a new sense of duty and courage, we have completed our high school career, which was marked with success at every point. Let us turn our eyes toward the future, leaving to memories the history of the past. 4 I- - rf-t if ' l r L c L 3 e «. r ( J i' , t; 'it A X . BEVERLY KELLER Foreign Exchange Student Bev lives in Tres Arroyos, Argentina, with the Pedersons, a Danish family. She has a sister Sonia, 16, and a brother Ernest, who is 20. We have six or seven classes a day, 45 minutes each. Between classes, we have a break, and everyone goes out to the patio ... We then go back to the same classrooms and the teachers have to do the changing. I have chemistry, physics, math, shorthand, typing, English, Spanish, literature, health, etc. There are no traffic regulations: no signs, traffic lights, no speed limit and most people drive at night with no lights or just park lights.
