THE WARRIOR Published by the Senior Class of 1965 mm saw iJjBxJ umi Nebraska at. FOREWORD We must live Youth now, while we still can; We must live; we must learn; we must smile; For we cannot live it over again. And Youth marches boldly, Echoing sternly, But lasting only a little while. As God looks down upon us from High, Disconsolate are the things He sees As we go on our separate ways. Parting, meeting. Separately seeking. Finding, together, our destinies. The relentless sea of Time will flow; Soon students no longer we'll be; Then must we use what we have learned. Working, hoping, Together sharing, Doing our parts for Humanity. Throughout all our lives, often we’ll pause And reminisce Youth together As recollections of moments shared, Securely bound In memories' pages To stay locked in our hearts Forever. As this is our seventy-fifth anniversary, the 1965 Warrior Staff has put forth all its talent in an effort to produce for you the best annual yet. May this, our Diamond Warrior Edition,’’ bring back to you, as the years hasten by, fond memories of your Broken The Editor Bow High School years. TABLE OF CONTENTS FOREWORD BOARD OF EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION FACULTY SENIORS UNDERCLASSMEN ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS ADVERTISEMENTS IN DEEP APPRECIATION We proudly and affectionately dedicate the Warrior to Mr. Joe Cupl, Jr. who, with his patience and understanding, has become such a genuine part of B.B.H.S. Throughout his fourteen years of devoted service to our Science Department, he has made it more than just a laboratory of charts and formulas, but instead a portion of life itself. Mr. Cupl, you see, has a goal ... to create in each student a desire to leam, to know, and to apply. The world can only present the challenge of life, but to meet it, one must have the will. Ever striving to reach this goal, Mr. Cupl has indeed dedicated himself to his work and inspired all of us in his every word. In return for the priceless gift of understanding he has so richly bestowed upon us, we present this 1965 Warrior to Mr. Joe Cupl, Jr., Teacher, Advisor, and Friend. The Editor you W. Our Board of Education, made up of active community members, is busy the year around determining the school policy and the many expenditures for the year. Men said, as they saw its beauty, It shall never know decay. Great is thy skill, O builder; Thy fame shall endure for aye. ” A teacher builded a temple With loving and infinite care. Planning each arch with patience. Laying each stone with prayer. None praised her unceasing efforts, None knew of her wondrous plan; For the temple built by the teacher Was unseen by the eyes of man. Gone is the builder’s temple. Crumbled into the dust; Low lies each stately pillar, Food for consuming rust. But the temple built by the teacher Will last while the ages roll. For that beautiful unseen temple Was a student's immortal soul. - Anon. MARIE FLYNN MRS. RICHESON South Cooks GARY GILLESPIE English. In that generation was the beginning of a class that was destined to shape the face of the world. It was the CLASS OF 1965, beginning with 103 members. As the years went by, the class began to assemble. We met for the first time in Kindergarten. Time passed and so did most of the class members. After many hard lessons we eventually became First Graders. The year was full of discovery, adventure, and highlighted by the science fair and the First Grade Circus. Time flew and Second Grade came and went, followed hy tne Third Grade, consumed in baseball and the multiplication tables. As Fourth Grade rolled around, North and South met for the first time on the field of athletics. Fifth Grade came and with it band, science fairs, field trips and increased studies. Finally, after one short year on top of the totem pole, we became one class of lowly papooses, --Seventh Graders. For the first time, as fate worked its solemn ways, all of the components of the class came together. Waxing strong in mind and body, we became one class. Time passed quickly, and soon, through the fruits of labor and Miss Cleveland's ruler, we became full-fledged Eighth Graders. Fleeting days and hard work in preparation for high school made graduation possible, and this class, one in name and goal, embarked on a new and exciting journey: the voyage through high school. In the first year, under the able sponsorship of Mr. Korte, the class elected Diana Brainard as President, Cheryl Brewer as Vice-President, and Wes Province as Secretary-Treasurer. Steve Wade and Diane Ulland were chosen to represent us at the council fires. As the class reassembled in the light of the Harvest Moon, we became Sophomores under the democratic administration of Mr. Hamblin. John Evans was elected President, with Cheryl Myers as his able assistant and .Ellen Zimmerman as scribe. The class was represented in the high court by Doug Brown and Cheryl Adams. With deadly swiftness time brought upon us the Junior Year, with such great events as the Junior Class Play, County Government Day, and the Junior-Senior Prom. Under a republican government headed by Mr. Sweenie, we elected Wes Province to the Presidency, Diana Brainard Vice-President, Martha Mattson Secretary, and Luetta Wenquist Treasurer. Honorable ambassadors to the General Assembly were Jerry Ayers and Judy Gardner. Time passed rapidly, and the beginning of the end made room for the end of the beginning. Under the command of Mr. Cupl, Bruce Blair was elected President, Frank Van Campen Vice-President, Patty Jensen Secretary, and Ellen Zimmerman Treasurer, while Diana Brainard and Wes Hodge were chosen as final representatives to tne student council to lead the destiny of 109 Seniors of whom 44 were original starters in the Broken Bow school system. With mixed feelings of hope and regret we looked forward to the Prom and Graduation, and before we knew it, our high school careers had come and gone. Yet, when we look back on high school days, we will remember many tnings we did, many things we wish we had done, and many things we wish we haa not done. Still, all of tne wishing in the world cannot change one second of the past; so, leaving past glories, as well as failures, we press onward to a higher mark. We face the future with warm courage And high hope. c Four score and one year ago, education in our abundant and beautiful land was offered the first opportunity to prepare students interested in agriculture for this vocation. The Smith-Hughes Act of Congress appropriated three million dollars annually for the purpose of providing systematic instruction in Vocational Agriculture for students of less than college level. The aim and primary goal was to have these students become established in farming through their participation in the regular classes of Vocational y Agriculture. At this time the program included classroom study in scientific and technical agriculture, farm mechanics shop, and a business opportunity matched by no other in our school systems in the Supervised Farming Program. In 1928 the Future Farmers of America was organized and chartered. This is a national organization of, by, and for farm youth who are studying Vocational Agriculture in the high school. N . . . serving today’s farm youth in four separate programs: 1. Future Farmers of America 2. Supervised Farming Program 3. Agriculture Science 4. Shop Each phase of Vocational Agriculture has an important part in providing a well-rounded course of study in the field it serves. Agriculture is one of the most dynamic and challenging business opportunities in our fast-moving world of today. A farmer, indeed, anyone connected with agriculture, must be alert to new methods, a new ideas, and new inventions in the field. No longer can it be said If I cannot do anything else, I can always be a farmer.” D This, then, is Vocational Agriculture - | A mixture of work, learning activi- ties, business ventures, and fun in the process. u u R MR.
