D Y7 u w BOOK memoRiGS Published by the SENIOR CLASS OF 1961 Broken Bow High School Broken Bow, Nebraska Vui ,  liT VJ Each year a new editor and a new staff combine their talents and ideas in an effort to produce a yearbook that is better and different from those of previous years. We have tried to show the history of the past year as it actually happened through pictures and brief stories. Recording the events of any school year is a feat in itself, but we feel that this challenge has been met successfully in many ways. We have now completed our version of the WARRIOR for you, the members of Broken Bow High School; and may you keep it as a lasting memento of your most wonderful years . . . your high school years. Co-Editors SELDON WENQUIST, President (Top Middle) ROY FAUQUET, Vice-President (Top Left) CLIFFORD ARMSTRONG, Secretary (Top Right) DR. RALPH BLAIR DR. HOWARD STEVENS TEDD HUSTON. Treasurer SCHOOL BOARD A MESSAGE . . . Your Key To Success May I dare each of you to get your key to success and use it? The key to success is the selecting of a well defined goal on the basis of your abilities and interest and then working hard to achieve the goal you selected. Men and women with goals in life succeed while men and women without goals fail, because those with goals know where they want to go and those without them don't. If you want to be a good student you will be, if you really want to make the Choir, the Band, be a Regent winner, you will. If you care enough for a result, you will certainly attain it. If you wish to be rich, you will be rich; if you wish to be learned, you will be learned. If you wish to be good, you will be good, only you must wish these things with all your heart, mind and soul and not at the same time wish one hundred other incompatible things. Which key do you want? Again I dare you to select yours and go to work to achieve it. This will not be an age of mediocrity; it will be one of greatness or catastrophe. Congratulations to each of you who is already on your way to your goal. Sincerely, CONGRATULATIONS . . . Congratulations to the annual staff in this very fine yearbook. You should be proud of a job well done. I am sure you will find many hours of pleasure when you look back through your annual and recall the happy hours spent at Broken Bow High School. To the Class of '61, best wishes and may your every endeavor be an experience which will help mold those solid characteristics which will lead to success in your future. Sincerely, s yj 1 j j j i u yyz2 ALMA MATER In the state of Custer County, With its hills and valleys fair to see, There rules the queen of all the prairie In sovereign majesty. SENIOR HISTORY Many moons ago, 109 little papooses gathered in the month of harvest; 109 curious minds, 218 restless moccasins. They chose as their Big Chief, Vaughn Smalltree; and as their Little Chief, Kyle Little Moose; with Little Reva Running-to-the-River to count the wampum; Dennis Flat Tail and Penny Sunrise to represent them around the council fires. They won the March of Dimes Contest with Bonnie Devilfish on the throne. Virgil Voice-like-Thunder Korte was their Medicine Man that year. The summer came and passed. Now 90 braver Indians gathered again in the month of harvest. Vaughn Smalltree and Kyle Little Moose still were the chiefs of the tribe. Judy Laughing Mouth watched over the wampum. Julie Morning Dove and Joe Poke-in-the-Eye took their places around the council fire. It was a happy year with pickled frogs and earthworms and Geometry. The Medicine Man was Jim Bouncing-Ball Ambler. The summer came and passed. Now 89 Indians remained to gather in the Great Council Lodge. Bonnie Devilfish and Polly Brown Bear were chosen to lead the tribe. Dean Mule Ear cached the wampum, while Linda Young Chick recorded their brave deeds. Bob Little Weasel and Jeanne Red-Hair held the seats around the council fires. This was the Refreshment-Stand year, the Junior-Class Play Year, the Prom Year, and the Next-to-the-Last Year. Desperate Ambrose shook the sides of the Great Council Lodge. Their Prom-Dance-Festival carried the theme of a circus. They again won the March of Dimes Contest with Polly Brown Bear as their queen. John Blue-Beetle Sweenie was their Medicine Man. The summer came and passed. Now 87 learned Braves gathered for the last time in the Great Council Lodge. Their Big Chief was Kent Swift Eagle, and their Little Chief was Joe Poke-in-the-Eye. Dean Mule Ear again cached the wampum and Jeanne Red Hair recorded their deeds on the buffalo hides. Allan Moss-under-Foot and Marva One-Who-Paints represented them at the council fires. The Braves gathered much wampum and once again won the March of Dimes Contest. Linda Young Chick was their queen. Now 87 Braves became Warriors and their hearts were filled with sadness at leaving the Great Council Lodge. Joe Early-Riser Cupl was their Medicine Man this year. They chose Lavender and White for their colors, the White Carnation for their flower; and as they bade B.B.H.S. a final goodbye, they chanted, Not for school but for life we learn. LIBRARY CLUB Legere, Discere, Frui (to read, to learn, to enjoy) As a man rises from a sumptuous dinner, he may truthfully exclaim, That was the best meal ever!, earlier repasts having faded from memory and the future holding only uncertainty. Furthermore, as long as the savor lingers, satiety stifles anticipation of further culinary ecstasies. An analogous law of nature inexorably governs the reading of books. When a man finishes reading a good book for the first time, he may truthfully affirm that it is the best book ever. The Club endeavors to learn, and help others in reading many books on many subjects. The methods used are reports on the various duties of librarians, book reviews, visiting other libraries, and being a proficient librarian at all times. The Club participates in the activities of the school. Second prize was awarded to the Club this year for the Homecoming display. Most of all, however, the members are learning to become useful members of our great society. MUSIC O.K., you guys; let’s get together! And, Sylvia Lee and Mable Crain, co-owners of the Boulevard Hotel Book and Gift Shop, found themselves smack-dab in the middle of all the confusion. Everyone seemed to believe he was the intended victim, and pictured himself as the next guest of the morgue. But, no need to fear; Terry Grant was there. He cracked the case and, like a knight in shining armor, won the love of the fair damsel. Eddie Beach, J. T. Rutledge, and Clifford Newkirk added a touch of comedy to the situation, with the rest of the cast giving fine performances. Spanish II busts a plnata. Stop hiding under tree- Mr. Wader that The P. The photo at left shows electric power lines near her laboratory. Another, (above), shows a high voltage barrier in one of the laboratory corridors.
