Something New Has Been Added . by Carrie Hnn Pederson X. h class imens anew ec qnized SP8 The newly Z3 mculw- to iecwhe' new Many years of wishing, waiting, and hard work will inevitably achieve the desired finale, and that is just what BBHS band members have been doing for the past decade. They will assure you that at times it has been very tedious and discouraging, but, at long last, on October 7, l948, the new band uniforms began arriving in Broken Bow. They continued to ap- pear, bit by bit, until on Friday night, October 29, their debut was made at the Loup City football game. The band makes a very snappy appear- ance in their red shakos with eight inch White ostrich plumes, white wool jackets ornamented with gold braid and red belts, and the red wool trousers decorated by a wide white stripe cen- tered with gold braid down the outside. White shoes are worn with these uniforms. The major- ette, Barbara Best, adds much glamor to the marching band in her white fur shako with a white plume, white jacket trimmed with gold braid, a White circular skirt, and White boots. These uniforms were acquired with money earned from band concerts, dances, and dona- Page 8 velY to Mrs' Mrs. Lucille Marsh- Dramaticsi-Fl t te nde d Doane College and re- ceived B. Hmong the many new additions made by the Board of Education is the new drinking fountain on the north school grounds and the new kitchen equipment in the Home Economics rooms. The kitchen has been completely re- arranged, making it possible for several girls to work together. There are five complete units, large enough so that four or five girls can work comfortably at each, These units include four new stoves and a new refrigerator. The kitchen has been painted green and yellow and the girls themselves have painted the din- ing room yellow and refinished the furniture, giving the department a more festive appear-

Happy Hours! . by Marilyn Iohnson September 9, 1948 Dear Egbert Last night was the first big affair of the opening school year. This was the shing-ding given exclusively for the little ones, namely, the freshmen. Mr. Cramer, Mr. Iacob, and Mrs. Russell were the weary sponsors, and from about 7:30 to 9:30 chaos reigned. Games were played to break the ice. Dancing and candy bars were later enjoyed. So-long!! Egelsteen October 5, 1943 Dear Egbert: Hello again! l went to a doin's last night. Quite an affair. It's the local band-party that l'm implying! Dancing and dining. Hh, two and a half hours of toe-stepping-on! The food was very good, provided thoughtfully by the Chamber of Commerce. No accidents occurred, although the floor shore was slick. Be Seein' You, Egelsteen. October 20, 1948 Dear Pal Egbert: My letters are coming thick and fast be- cause of all the school activities we're having. Hnd do we love 'eml Last night, the school was honored with a dance. Kindly sponsored by the juniors. There was a large crowd there and the two hours passed too quickly. There was a door prize, a yellow, rubber, quacking duck, won by Gerald Sloggett. Useful for hunt- ing, or for a decoy. Bye-bye for now! Egelsteen Page 10 October 26, 1948 Hello, again, Egbert! Did you ever crash any parties? It's more fun! While out taking a stroll with a pal of mine, we saw the lights and banners out for the FFH-Fl-IF! party. So we thought we might watch for a wee while so 1 could tell you all about it. But while we stood there, everyone was so very kind to ask us to join in the dancing. So, we just couId'n't refuse! fNor re- sistl But it was a lively party. Miss I-litchrnan and Mr. I-Iuntzinger were the swell people who sponsored the affair, and who also let us crash the gay dance, by the way. We thank you! For awhile, everyone enjoyed the dancing. Then Ted McMillan and Donna Sorter organized games. One, The Highland Fling, just wore me out! H lunch of soft drinks and doughnuts was served.
