The purpose of the Art Department is to develop the appreciation and creative abilities of the student. Art is a way of life. Art Edu- cation should be regarded as one means of securing emotional and mental balance in living. The individual differences in students are recognized. Art helps to make the student a better citizen in the community environ- ment of which he is a vital part. 1467 fl n -24 -5 4? 't at UQ.-f . r lair . This Junior high art student prepares for a scene in the annual music-art department Giristmas program. Rodney Armstrong mixes molding plaster for one of his assignments in Art Ill. The purpose of stagecraft is to assist in the building of stage sets for the many school dramatic and musical productions. These stu- dents construct and erect flats for the stage and also operate the auditoriLu'r1 lighting system. M0515 1 4151 'Wi 4 .f'f.g x. ,iff eij-is - 'JWW1 A large class of students meets every day to make the fine Art Building ring with songs. old and new, in vocal music. 654170 Any high school student, who can meet the requirements for musicianship and character, may join the high school band. Membership is controlled by the director, Mr. Fred Gesin. The band participates in a large number of school and commtmity affairs each year, and also makes many out-of-town appearances. Band members receive a solid credit and a physical education credit for their partici- pation. The band is an organization with many members. T A -f..n, r 1 For the Annual Christmas Program, held for the first time in the new auditorium, the band was located in the spacious balcony. WM !WU.5'!6' The primary purpose of the vocal music instruction is to give all students an oppor- tunity to participate in singing organizations and to learn the skills of musical performance. This training offers a challenge to further de- velopment of the talented and gifted students. Various experiences are offered through Mixed Chorus, Girls Glee Club and various small ensembles as well as Solos.
