Ultimate goals for each student who enrolls in these courses are good health and a well-developed personality. Training in family life education is stres sed so that each student may learn to live more satis- factorily. This department offers basic training that may be applied to many professions and vocations, such as nursing, dietetics, industrial demonstration, interior decoration. styling and modeling, dressmaking, and commercial food service. M' LCIUMWWV Distributive education is a part of the vo- cational training program provided by the Broken Arrow High School for juniors and seniors who are interested in entering the various fields of business distribution upon graduation. This training program establishes a co- operative relationship between the school and business, whereby the student trainee attends regular classes in the morning, andhas a part- time occupation for the afternoon. One hour each day the student attends the DE class where he studies related subjects such as proper job attitudes, getting along with people, selling techniques, merchandise information, advertising, and display.Inaddi- tion to this class, the student is enrolled in two or three other regular high school classes. All DE students are members of the DE Clubs of America. The club has various pro- jects and activities throughout the year. The two highlights of the year are the vocational banquet, sponsored co-operatively by all the vocational departments, and the annual DE convention which usually lasts three days. Mr. Clarence Oliver supervises the make up of class projects in DE I. W-ati Sr A u .uz !!l!I!!J'ff7!,4 01934 f!fl!6' The drafting student at right is reproducing his drawing which he has just completed. Industrial Drafting is an advanced study of Mechanical Drawing which teaches the student to make more complete and advanced technical drawings. It offers practical experiences in machine, structural, architectural, aircraft and marine drafting. The student will have ex- perience in making and reading blue prints and ozlid prints. This course is a prerequisite to engineering courses in college and may develop an in- dustrial vocation as a skilled draftsman. Four years is required to complete this course. -.,f-If - e as - r 1 ,ii .'v':.t ' ' -VI W ' time-'V f' -f'.'.7 .' .' ., ,-4 1? Below Mr. Bob Remington explains the solution to a particularly trying problem to drafting student Mike Stearns. YW Here too much equipment is involved in the proper drafting procedure. Don Rosamond takes one of the drawing instruments from the board to prepare an assignment. All of the drafting instruments are available and their use is learned both in theory and practice as the student progresses in his course of study. r At right Bob Boucher displays some of his handiwork that he has made in PHA courses over the last two years. Much practical practice is given these boys in doing much of the plumbing work for the school system. Below a sophomore student draws a diagram of the PHA building in preparation for an assignment. This subject consists of the basic fundamentals of the three occupations suggested in the title pltmibing, heating, and air conditioning. Students study the theory of refrigera- tion and its application in commercial and household refrigerators and in air- conditioning equipment. Practical study materials and projects are used to develop vocation in these three fields. flf67!zW!l!!6'.5' At right Hal Helm and Robert Vogt are working on a laboratory experiment which involves making phase shift measurement. This is only one of many experi- ments which electronics students are required to per- form daily. Below electronics instructor Mr. John Talbot explains the theory of circuits to his class. This is a necessary phase of classroom procedure. The students will later put this theory into actual practice. r '- 'fq At right we see much of the electronic test equip- ment which is used in the teaching of correct electronic procedure. Students learn the proper use of this equip- ment as a part of their regular training in electronics classes. They also learn the importance of being stu-e and not trusting to chance. 'Ihis course is designed to train in the theory and application of the fundamentals of electricity and electronics. The servicing of commercial appliances is only one of the many things he will be able to do. He will be able to make circuit diagrams, use common repair tools and testing equipment, become familiar with standard reference materials used by electronic technicians, and will study the fundamental principles of television and radar equipment, as well as the control systems of modern aircraft. Four years of study will be required to complete this course. -- 5' E il I - T 4. W-.. 'll' -' 1- - - '- -' ef-' ! 4 ' 'le -A , if 3352 lff-fl ,. . W mg L 'r '. . The library has all the information needed for most reports and research themes a student will be assigned to do. It also offers a well-rounded selection of reading material for the majority of students. All books except the encyclopedias and a few special reference books may be checked out for use outside the library. These books can be used in the library only. !!6'fi'f415'l' At left is a scene from Tuesday night in the high school library. Our library is always open on Tuesday night and it becomes a time for reports, reading, and general homework where references are needed. Open Stacks enable Monty Evans to decide for himself which reference would be best suited for his report. At left is a portion of the library science class which is offered each semester to those students who are interested. This course is designed to enable the student to learn more about the functions of the library and about the vast amount of information contained on the library shelves. It is set in a small west Texas town and deals with the humorus incidents in the lives of the preacher's family and the celebration of the Porters' twenty- fifth anniversary. They are to repeat their wedding vows be- fore the church as a part of the celebration, but a camera- carrying spinster and a dance called the Buzzard Lope almost wreck the household before the good Reverend and Mrs. Porter can relive their wedding day. All's well that ends well and the curtain falls finally on happiness and joy as all of the family are drawn together in the sacredness of the anni- versary celebration. .fzfflffm i WMC 0147 1 1 ,rf l ' t 51: A11 -I A- , i luflnv I l V1 .H-4 ' , qi!!!
