'S This year the band and pep club su- prised Mr. Gesin with a new trumpet which they presented to him on November 19, 1956 during band period. 1: was to show the appreciation for his effort and hard work in making the band the wonderful organiza- tion it truly is. if The 1956-57 Broken Arrow High School Band played an extremely full schedule as well as being a very important part of the school year. Playing half time shows for twelve football games kept the 109 piece Tiger marching band on their toes, The rehearsals for their concert in February and for various other activities kept the 102 piece concert band busy for the remainder of the year. Among the outstanding half-time shows the band played were: a television themeg a show on highway safteyg a salute to Marvin Apple, a former studentg and a salute to our football conference. Perhaps the most colorful half-time show in which the band participated was the football queen coronation ceremonies. This followed a viking theme and the band played the traditional coronation music. One of the bands' twirlers was crowned football queen. Another colorful half-time show was a salute to will Rogers in which the band formed the famous Dog-iorn brand and played western music. The parade band played for the formal opening of the Highway Patrol Headquarters in Tulsa. They played traditional marches for this dedication. They also marched in the Will Rogers Day Parade in Claremore, Oklahoma. Another outstanding achievement for the parade band was the winning of a march- ing contest at Oklahoma City, The concert band presented their annual concert on February 18, 1957, at which time they crowned the queen, Miss Davalu Crockett. The Student Council has sponsored many activities and lots of money-making projects. At the beginning of the year, we sponsored a Western Day when teachers and students came dressed in full western regalia. We had a complete se11-out of the black and gold pennant, booster pens and B.A. Junior High pens. we were in charge of the paicil sales and sold pillows at the football games. Pm sure all of your remember the familiar chants 15d or 2 for a quarter at the football games. We sponsored the B. A. Letter Awards which are given each year to the top 1070 of Junior High based on points eamed. We acted as a governing board in the concession room and violators of the set rules were given a trial by judge and jury and were punished according to their violation. The Student Council sponsored a safety patrol for the grade childrm that live in the Wesley Drive addition. We had a flag-raising ceremony each morning and played records during the Christmas holidays. We sponsored the Church Attendance Banner which was plaoed each week in the homeroom with the largest church attmdance. A Courtesy Week was held and the most courteous boy and girl were elected by the student body. We acted as guides for the Speech Contest which was held here this year and we sponsored an assembly each month during the 2nd semester. An up-to-date scrapbook was kept containing all our activities and projects this year.
