STUDENT COUNCIL The success of many of the school activities this year was brought about largely through the efforts of the student council. Council members not only took part in most of the assemblies and parties, but also strove to bring about a feeling of unity and understanding between the faculty and student body. In our student council there are two representatives, a boy and a girl, from each of the three Senior high classes: Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. Presiding over these six, there is a President elected by the student body in the spring of the preceding year. One faculty member serves as Sponsor. Norma Jane Wallain was elected President last spring in the first all-school election under the new student council constitution. The following representatives were chosen in class meetings early in September: Thelma Moren and Dale Crowder, Seniors, Mary Connery and Jay Jennings, Juniors, Judy Lyle and Bill Lemon, Sopho- mores. Mr. Ted Best served as Sponsor. Student handbooks were presented by the student council to each student during the first week of school. These booklets contained information concerning the schooI's accrediting system, curriculum, and rules, it also listed subiects, activities, and important school events. Another proiect sponsored by the student council was Twirp Season, which was considered a successful social proiect by both the student body and the faculty. This season, which lasted from November 21 to 29, was a repetition, by popular request, of an idea first introduced at B.A.H.S. in the fall of 1951, a season during which the girls paid the expenses on all dates. The council had charge of scheduling and co-ordinating all assembly programs. Different members had charge of the opening exercises at each assembly also. ln charge of the bulletin board near the office this year, the versatile student council performed another worthwhile service for the school. A new bulletin board was presented to the school as a council project and was installed in a more convenient location. This bulletin board, equipped with a glass front and a lock, was a practical, as well as ornamental, addition to the high school hall. Members saw to it that all current news of importance was posted on the board and had posters made for special occasions. With a field trip to Central High School, Tulsa, Okla- homa, this spring to enable members to study the methods and proiects of a larger council, the Broken Arrow High School Student Council concluded its second year of operation-a year of great progress in democratic student government and service to the school.
