BROGDEN Published By The Senior Class BROGDEN HIGH SCHOOL Dudley, North C arolina OuJv I eaJt If I IP FOREWORD With pride we present to you our Brohican of 1959, filled with memories of our last year at Brogden High. We have had a great deal of pleasure as well as much hard work com¬ piling these memories. Our hopes are that you will cherish this annual as we do. The annual staff has had invaluable experience creating this Brohican. There are things recorded here that we will al¬ ways remember and by which you will remember us. CONTENTS Introduction Administration Classes Features and Activities Elementary Classes Advertising DEDICATION The 1959 Brohican is dedicated to a person whom we all know and admire. During the past eight years he has contributed generously of his time and energy, not only to the school but to the entire area. In various farm organizations and community projects his untiring efforts have been an inspiration to those with whom he has worked. In appreciation of these services and in recognition of his outstanding character, we proudly dedicate this annual to Mr. R. K. Jernigan. 7 The job of principal is seldom an easy one. It involves numerous duties never thought of by those not closely associated with school work. For the past two years this position has been ably filled by Mr. Lewis J. Outlaw, Jr. who also teaches chemistry. He is a graduate of Seven Springs High School, received his B. S. from Wake Forest College, and his M. A. from East Carolina College. PRINCIPAL Mr. Lewis J. Through participation in the var¬ ious clubs and sports we become leaders in some fields, and co-operative workers in others. We also gain knowledge in the ideals of sportsmanship and good citizenship. Membership in some of these groups such as the Marshals and the Beta Club depends largely on scholarship, while others offer opportunities to excel in the specific areas in which our talents lie. We feel that some of the most memorable and valuable experiences of our high school days are those connected with our extra-curicular activities. 24 MISS BROGDEN HIGH LINDA KORNEGAY The position of Miss Brogden High is one of highest esteem in our school. She must possess not only outstanding scholastic ability, but also the qualities of character and personality which the faculty and students feel best represent the ideals of our school. She is elected by the high school students from among the three senior girls having the highest four year average. MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Brenda Jo Williamson-J.B.
