Thanks to the help of all the writers, photographers, artists, and editors, the paper was a tremendous success. This year was a year of change within the paper, as it attacked more controversial issues with more intensity than ever before. Many thanks to Mr. Miele for his help, guidance, and, most importantly, dedication. The staff wishes to thank all others involved in the production of the paper, and to wish continued success to next years staff. - Bryan Hilliard Literar Review -I 7 .X . Q - V-sf' Nfl pn The B.H.S. Literary Review is one of the oldest organizations at Brockton High. It stated in 1907 under the name Brocktonia. Today it remains an extremely active organization with approximately 50 active members. The Literary Review provides a forum for talented student writers to publish their work after peer evaluation. The Literary also exchanges copies of the magazine and ideas with other schools. In addition, the seniors of the magazine give a gift to the high school each year to express their appreciation. Not only are those students who are involved in the writing aspect of the magazine important, but also those students in the Industrial Arts program. Without these students the magazine would not be able to function on such a professional level. Currently, the club's advisor is Mr. Mark Lincoln, an English teacher in the Yellow house. The Artistic editor 's Grace Burr, a student at B.H.S., whose work has been featured in National Publications. Also involved with the magazine are Mrs. Dorothy Kelly of Word Processing, and Mr. Lenord Russo in the Industrial Arts department. - Susan McNeil 'N Staff includes: Bryan Hilliard feditor in chiefl, Chris Barry, Rich Caffelle, Chris Koelsch, Bhavin Patel, Robyn Webby -sn .4- Hi 1-sv M Ulf x -L-

Close-Up is a week-long experience for students from all over the country who are interested in learning about national government. The students' vigorous week in Washington included workshops. tours, and meetings with politicians and lobbyists from across the coun- try. Highlights included a visit to the Pentagon. a law seminar at Georgetown L7niversity, and a private meeting with Congressman Brian Don- nelly from Massachusetts. The participants had a great time and came back to Brockton with new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. But Close-Lp did not happen by itself. It took students who were interested in learning close-up about how the United States government operates. lt also took two teachers, Mr. Robert Uto and Mr. Edward Walsh, to spark the interest and make the trip a huge success. The Close-Up students from the Class of '88 were honored to be the first Brockton High delegation to this reward- Ing Pfilgfafn. - David Bamford and Sherri Geller STI 'DENTS A GA INS T DR l 'NK DRI V ING Students Against Driving Drunk. with the help of Mr. Vincent Riccardi, has managed to expand greatly this year, With an increase of approximately twenty members. the interest in the problem of driving drunk is growing. The committee is based on the motto Friends dont let friends drive drunk, and all activities are focused on spreading this idea. Although drink- ing and driving continues to be one of the major causes of death in the Lnited States to- day, the numbers are decreasing. With interest groups such as S.A.D.D. and M.A.D.D. spread- ing society awareness. both teenagers and adults have joined together in an attempt to save lives. With Bob Sullivan and Tammy Fisher as co- chairpersons. the group is on its way. Passing out buttons, pamphlets, bumper-stickers. and key chains invites students to participate in the idea of 'Just saying NO. In the future, we can only hope and pray that drivers will learn self- control and respect for others on the road. - Adrienne Gilbert and Mike Shaevitz C: ...MGH scngq 'MM ig if-, , .V,. L.
