I s Student Advisory Council ' 'Q .- . 1'- ..,. n 1 s. K k w 1 . E , .. l 1 . Q. 1.1 i'5 !.lA 11 .'. STUDENT ADVISOR Y COUNCIL There are two different Student Advisory Councils, Regional and Local. Each committee is designed to represent Brockton High and voice B.H.S. students' views and ideas to different School Committees. The eight Regional S.A.C. members attend meetings once a month in Lakeville at the Southeast Regional Education Center. The members are split into Task Forces to work on social, education, and economic issues that are affecting students across the region and across the state. They learn what privileges students from other schools have, and they learn what the law says regarding student rights. The local S.A.C. members attend the Brockton School Committee meetings. They learn about what is happening in the Brockton School system, and can voice their opinions on the issues discussed. Both Committees meet with Mr. George, the Superintendent, every six weeks to discuss what they have learned and to try to apply their knowledge and work to make Brockton High School better. - Sherri Geller Members include Clst aisle T to BJ Maria Papapodopoulis, Melissa Russell, Amy Miller. f2nd aislej Bob Sullivan, Michelle Brogan, Sherri Geller, Kathy Connolly. fmissingj Laurie McGlone, Dan Spiegal. With over 5700 students at Brockton High, it is difficult for any one student to stand up and make a difference. Luckily, there is an organiza- tion such as the Student Senate that is willing to take a stand in order to promote change. This year, under the guidance of newly ap- pointed Advisor Robert Magee, the Senate has become a potent organization willing to tackle any task. The school year began with an Orien- tation Assembly sponsored by the Senate. The assembly was designed to acquaint freshmen with the many extra-curricular activities avail- able at the High School. Student representatives of various organizations took part to make the assembly a success. To improve the effectiveness of our student government, the Senate formed a committee to revamp its present constitution as well as draft a brand new constitution for the S.A.C. Under the framework of these new documents, student government at the high school will take on a more prominent role in the lives ofthe students. The student Senate must also address student controversy over school policy and offer solu- tions to student concerns. This year the Senate presented two proposals to the administrationg one which would allow students to wear shorts during the hot weather, and one which would allow students with an A average the option to not take finals. The Student Senate has taken a more promi- nent position in Brockton High School, and with the groundwork set forth this year, 1988-89 should be a productive year for both the Senate and Brockton High. - Steve Solari and Sarah Homer Student Senate -Q gl STUDENT SENATE: OFFICERS: Andy Ashmang Sarah Homerg Christine O'Keefeg Steve Solari. Thanks to the help of all the writers, photographers, artists, and editors, the paper was a tremendous success. This year was a year of change within the paper, as it attacked more controversial issues with more intensity than ever before. Many thanks to Mr. Miele for his help, guidance, and, most importantly, dedication. The staff wishes to thank all others involved in the production of the paper, and to wish continued success to next years staff. - Bryan Hilliard Literar Review -I 7 .X . Q - V-sf' Nfl pn The B.H.S. Literary Review is one of the oldest organizations at Brockton High. It stated in 1907 under the name Brocktonia. Today it remains an extremely active organization with approximately 50 active members. The Literary Review provides a forum for talented student writers to publish their work after peer evaluation. The Literary also exchanges copies of the magazine and ideas with other schools. In addition, the seniors of the magazine give a gift to the high school each year to express their appreciation. Not only are those students who are involved in the writing aspect of the magazine important, but also those students in the Industrial Arts program. Without these students the magazine would not be able to function on such a professional level. Currently, the club's advisor is Mr. Mark Lincoln, an English teacher in the Yellow house. The Artistic editor 's Grace Burr, a student at B.H.S., whose work has been featured in National Publications. Also involved with the magazine are Mrs. Dorothy Kelly of Word Processing, and Mr. Lenord Russo in the Industrial Arts department. - Susan McNeil 'N Staff includes: Bryan Hilliard feditor in chiefl, Chris Barry, Rich Caffelle, Chris Koelsch, Bhavin Patel, Robyn Webby -sn .4- Hi 1-sv M Ulf x -L-
