Students throughout the country have been a driving force in affecting change in all factions of society-from the federal government down to local levels. As members of these unset- tled times, you have witnessed deceit and corruption and a loss of self-re- spect for our nation. I, too, have shared your fears and concerns. Because of your youthful vigor and enthusiasm, your positive attitude, and pride in your school and your- selves, you have restored my faith in the country and its ability to regain its self-respect. As the Class of 1977, you have demonstrated a sense of pur- pose towards re-establishing our equitable sense of values for all. May God grant you strength to bring to a successful conclusion that which you have begun. 'Chris D. Argys Q i Graduates: and after school . . . . . . . ? It is better to be educated to some extent than not to be educated at all. You will, of course, agree that it is. 'lhen is it not still better to have a better than average educa- tion? No one can pack enough into his mind during school days to last his lifetime. Graduates, education ends only with one's life. What you learn at school is something to which you must add, year after year, and pass on to others. Thus, said Einstein, do we mortals achieve immortality in the permanent things which we create in common. With best personal regards, I remain' Very truly yours, F503-72 We John F. Ryan

+ It is our sincere hope that upon completion of your secondary education you have acquired certain con- cepts, skills and behaviors. Primarily, you must understand that as an individual in the United States you live in a free and open society. This social process has as its principal ideal the recognition of the dignity and the worth of each individual. Our system necessitates your understanding certain re sponsibilities, skills and behaviors, you must culti vate the love of truth and justice, actively partici pate in political, econrnic and social life, demon strate loyalty, econmic efficiency, creativity and inventiveness, reverence, and concern for the we fare of others. In addition, it is vital that you de velop your intellectual capabilities to reach deci sions based upon critical thinking as well as the willingness to act consistently with the conclusions reached. We trust that you have been imbued with these con cepts, skills and behaviors during your public school ing in Brockton. Many of these attributes will be tested and strengthened, in the years to come, through further education, vocational occupation and home making. On the eve of your graduation, on behalf of the faculty and the underclassmen, I extend sincere congratulations and very best wish for a pleasant constructive and successful future. Smcerely, I ,WI X r vw' 5
