The body of the high school will move on to the new school, a school beyond anything imaginable in l904. Nevertheless any person who was a part ol' Brockton High will never forget it. .,, I! Goldman A year ago at this time it appeared as though the Class of 1970 would be the first to graduate from the new Brockton High School. At this writing it is extremely doubtful that this will be- come a reality. ln tribute to the Class of 1970 it must be said that you have borne the trials and tribulations of continued double sessions with considerable aplomb and understanding. l join with the faculty in expressing the sincere hope that you will face life with its trials and tribula- tions with the same determination. effort. and understanding which have characterized your three years at B.H.S. Every best wish for your continued success and good health. In one's life certain events stand out - birth, the first day of school, graduation from high school, marriage, your first child . . . As you approach one of these important dates. your graduation, l hope that you will be able to look back upon your days at Brockton High with fond memories and that you will look ahead with anticipation to a full and rich life. I hope this book will serve as a reminder of our high school days. To each of you I offer my congratulations and best wishes for the days to come. Headmaster Mr. John M. While each club and organiza- tion responds to a ditterent area ot the students' interests, Student Council must take into its scope the entire realm ot school lite. lt is responsible tor the general attitude ot Beachwood's student body. This year's Council was successtul in both main- taining tradition and initiating change. A beau- titully arranged Homecoming highlighted Coun- cil's October ettorts. November marked the ad- vent ot a very protitable Pancake Breakfast. And in spring, Council-sponsored events included the White and Gold Review, Spirit Week, and the sec- ond annual White and Gold Ball. Student Council's achievements were, however, by no means limited to social activities. lts Stu- dent Exchange and Job Opportunities programs were highly successtul. And in its role as the voice ot the student body, Student Council was ettec- tive in seeking response to the students' grievances. ,- 'CI ,f .....,,,,.X A ping-pong tournament?? Double sessions and limited facilities might have lessened the great experience we have achieved here, but as we graduate we find ourselves standing among the best. The energy, faith, spirit, and devotion shown by the officers, and the class as a whole is a tribute to our school and the Class of 1970. As we go out into the world of disease, poverty, hatred, and pollution, let us remember that there is still love, understanding, faith, and open fields. We as graduates of Brockton High, citizens of America, and the world can make the good outweigh the evil. The officers and myself wish you good luck in whatever you pursue in life. Thank you for everything. Our History Class of 1970 Our class has the unprecedented distinction of being the last class to complete three full years at the old Brockton High School. No one before us has accomplished this feat, nor will anyone after us repeat it. We are in fact unique! We arrived as sophomores in September of 1967. Elected as class officers were: Presi- dent - Stu Romm, Vice-President - Linda Daugirda, Secretary - Marcia Miller, Trea- surer - William Luttrell. The Executive Committee consisted of Esther Emord, Enie Ekberg, Rhonda Selvin, David Dechovitz, John Martin, and Jeff Willinsky. As a typical sophomore class our most significant accomplishment was the design of the class banner in blue and green. School wide for the year there was a Computer Dance sponsored by the Student Council. Dur Basketball Team went to the Tech Tournament and the Cross Country Team won the New England title. However, we got to know each other which is the most important aspect of this year. Our Junior year began ordinarily, with class elections. Elected were: President - Stu Romm, Vice-President - Joyce Campbell, Secretary - Jane Sweeney, Treasurer - Jeff Willinsky, and Executive Committee - Chrysoula Beltsios, Enie Ekberg, Esther Emord, Jim Aven, David Dechovitz, and John Martin. The Football team tried again. The Basketball team won the Suburban League title and again went to the Tech Tourna- ment. The Cross Country team again won the New England title. The annual dance was held by the Student Council in November. A great change swept over our school in Janu- ary, 1969 with the publication of A.P.A.T.H.Y., a student newspaper, and we were finally given a voice. Our prom was held on April 26 at the Blue Hills Country Club with Maryann Tamulevich crowned as queen. To end our year, we were given the gift of a new dress code by which some freedom of dress was allowed. The Officers for our senior year were: President - Stu Romm, Vice-President - Joyce Campbell, Secretary - Jane Sweeney, Treasurer - Jeff Willinsky and Executive Committee - Janet Butler, Maryann Campbell, Esther Emord, Bobby Adams, David Dechovitz, and Alan Osheroff. A bonfire was held in October at Eldon Keith Field to burn indifference. On November 21 a great dance was sponsored by the Student Coun- cil. The Cross Country team won the Suburban League title. Finally we ended eight years of defeat by winning the Thanksgiving game on November 27, with a score of 12 to 8 against Weymouth. For the beginning of our Senior year at BHS, nothing could have been better. However, our Senior year is incomplete as of this yearbook deadline. We leave it up to you to fill in your own ending. Whatever it is though, it can't be less than fabulous! Class Banner A V V 1, VV ---v--W -- VVV-v i--1 - J i '? ' ' Class Motto We must meet forces of hate with the power of love. The record stands 3 wins and 6 losses but actually, the football team displayed a powerful attack in all of its games. Although opening the season unsuccessfully the team, Captained by Keith Platenik and Barry Tucker, came back to win against Watertown, Waltham, and Weymouth. The most memorable of these games was the Thanksgiving Day Game, in which senior ,lack Olson and junior Barry Sheehan combined to put the Red and Black in front of Weymouth by a score of 12-B. This was a big win for the Brock- tonians, as the team hasn't pulled off a victory from Weymouth in seven years. Coach Colombo is looking forward to next year with hopes of returning B.H.S. to its championship position of a few years back. The 1969 soccer team had one of its better seasons this year. Captained by Bob Smith, the boys had many fine moments and proved that they knew how to work as a team. The Red and Black broke even with a 7-7 record and with many underclassmen expected to retum next fall, the team should be a strong contender for the league title. The B.H.S. basketball season, although being a disappointing one with the failure to qualify for the Tech Tourney, ended up being quite promising and satisfying. At the beginning of the season, many con- flicts hurt the team both in spirit and in play but the Red and Black began to win and came one game shy of the Tech. The best plays of the season came when our team forced the league champions, Cambridge latin, into an overtime game. The team, led by Captain Barry Tucker, showed the hustle and style that Coach Jack Lehane gets out of his players. The seniors, who made up the nucleus of the team were Barry Tucker, Mark Trent, Jim Cerce, ,lim Alfieri, Steve Joy, Bob Fardie, Frank Davidson, and Chris Gibbons.
