,aring .xdcfiuifiea Lol where the rosy-bosm'd Hours, Fair Venus' train appear Disclose the long-expecting flowers, And wake the purple year! Although most of us thought that Spring had finally arrived, Mother Nature didn't quite agree with us. The calendar read March 21, yet, upon looking out- side, one could see a blanket of snow covering the ground for miles around. The spring activities had to fight an almost losing battle against the elements and had to delay their opening days to later dates. The enthusiasm of the stu- dents was high, and all were eagerly awaiting the coming events. lt seemed that the baseball team would have to play on Eldon Keith field with boots and winter clothes instead of their normal spring uniforms. There was a question whether to go skiing or to play baseball. After a delay the team started its highly successful season. The inclement weather, however, didr1't prevent the musical organizations of the school from participating in various concerts. The All-City Music Festival, in which the Band, the Male Chorus, and the Girls' Glee Club participated, proved to be a night of great entertainment for all. After this con- cert the Harmonies, Girls' Glee Club, Galloneers, Male Chorus, and the band participated in the Southeastern Massachusetts Music Festival in Needham. With the coming of warmer weather, the tennis and golf teams began their ac- tivities. Our dancers made merry when the Senior Prom was held in a beautiful marine setting with decorations of fishes and marine colors. Another important event during the spring was the delightful and amusing Talent Show presented by the Dramatic Club. To make a direct contrast, the spirit of warmth and ardor seemed to melt the cold and harshness of the weather. 3' 5 S 2 1 gf- 5 2 5, 24

EGJQLCJ gan! The last of the three major sports at Brockton High is baseball, our national sport. This year's team, coached by Mr. Norman B. Nash, was unable to begin prac- tices as early as had been planned because of the wet conditions of the field from late-season snows. Until the field dried sufficiently, the pitchers worked-out indoors, and thus were able to condition their arms in time for the first game. Despite the handicap from the weather the team got off to an excellent start, Winning five of its six games, in a fifteen-game schedule. One reason for this fine start, was that there were seven boys on this year's squad who were regulars last season. Included among this group was the team captain, George Bagas, Another strong point was the pitching staff, which consisted of five dependable hurlers, some of whom played another position when not on the mound. Follow- ing the theory that practice makes perfect, Coach Nash's boys practiced at Eldon Keith Field every day that there Was no game. Although anything can happen in baseball, at this writing the team is antici- pating a most successful season. 1' Fl ,A If BQ' 4 Mfg ,, A0502 0l'.1 I fv I ix, V I' 44+ re, . m, . .,i,'T',..
