66:44 .llidfory A mightly Hand, from an exhaustless Urn, Pours forth the never-ending Flood of Years, Among the nations. How the rushing waves Bear all before them! On their foremost edge, And there alone is Life. The Present there Tosses and foams, and fills the air with roar Of mingled noises. There are they who toil, And they who strive, and they who feast, and they Who hurry to and fro. The sturdy swain- Woodman and delver with the spade-is there, And busy artisan beside his bench, And pallid student with his written roll. A moment on the mounting billow seen, The flood sweeps over them and they are gone. The Flood of Years, William Cullen Bryant. lt was a mere three years ago that we, the Class of 1950, stepped forth into the breath-taking environment of high school life, an existence which was to prove to be full of responsibilities. These three years have been, to say the least, intense. We have found our lives to be rather well-balanced, for we have experienced the intrinsic values to be found in study, athletics, and social endeavors. Our days have been full of friendship. We have been hopeful- and happy: we have been serious and sad in turn. We have grown physically and intellectually. Our personalities have developed. We have learned, some- what, the ways of men and women the world over. Nature has amazed us with her power. We have acquired much from the past and the present. We have placed our trust in the future. As is usually the case, our class has experienced many changes. We began our Sophomore year under the new headmaster Mr. Ralph S. Frellick. We have, indeed, benefited greatly from his kind and helpful assistance. Then, in our Iunior year we regretted the resignation of E. Marion Roberts, director of athletics. Mr. Roberts had served the high school well for thirty-five years. Old B. H. S. will miss this capable member of its faculty. The year 1949 brought the addition of six new members to our faculty: Mr. Cook, Mr. Ramacorti, Mr. Metcalf, Mr. Smith, Mr. Ford, and Mr. Rourke. We must not soon forget Brocktonia, that faithful recorder of news, and its capable staff. During our three years at high school it has kept us well- informed on the happenings and highlights of school affairs. A new and improved Brocktonia made its debut the last of March. Better and different items were included. And lest we forget-thanks to the yearbook staff, the workers behind the scenes. They have had the difficult task of summarizing the cherished memories of our three years and of putting these remembrances down in print. Congratulations and many thanks to both of these able groups and their advisors. Every phase of athletic endeavor has shown our young men and women to be of excellent caliber. We have had fine records in football, basketball, and baseball. The hockey and track teams, along with the cross country and tennis teams, have shown keen sportsmanship and lively spirit. ln fact, all of our athletic groups may be proud of the way in which they represented our school. November found many anxious Seniors trying out for parts in the class play. The members of the cast must have been aptly chosen, for Iunior Miss Continued on page 67 l7
