1949 C6166 0 e MARIE SHERMAN Our bright youth led us to this goal Through swift years skimming by. Our hope has always made us hold God's Truth up to His sky. We've searched for knowledge that will make Fine lives of worth and fame F or those who capture and who take What knowledge has to claim. Each eager mind grasped Wisdom's word To store for future need. Each open heart has surely heard A cry for some great deed. Word by Marie Sherman 1'2- , . -,- -.- . --..- - SYLVIA MCRAE The world is now within the reach Of hands that hope to mold A way of life for all to teach A story yet untold. Youth asks but for a chance to prove lts worth to Gods own world: To be among the first to move To call of flag unfurled. Pray for us now, O hopeful land, That we may bring you fame, That we may give to life's demand, And honor your great name. 4 JJJAJJ 4 .1 V f? Teachers and pupils of Brockton High School pay tribute to a rnan who leaves his position after thirty-five years of outstanding service in Brockton High athletics. E. Marion Roberts, coming to Brockton in 1913, found the football and baseball teams in the earliest stages of their development. Highland Park in Avon served as the official field for school athletic activities, teams required the financial support of the school board. Today, through the efforts of Mr. Roberts and others, Brockton High is able to be proud of its well-rounded athletic program, its self- supporting teams, its fine athletic field, and an enthusiastic school following. We thank you, Mr. Roberts. 14

G65 0007, THE CHALLENGE TO YOUTH By IOAN KINSMAN The road of Life winds 'round a hill, And disappears beyond our viewg lt shows a life with joy or pain, A life with sunshine or with rain, A life that springs with hope anew. The burdens that we each must bear, Serve but to keep our heads held high. Though striving toward a goal are we, We still can drop our eyes to see The earth's great charms as we pass by: The flowers blooming by the way, The blessing of each loyal friend, The glorious ring of Freedom's song, Freedom from fear-oppression-wrong Until we find at iourney's end Success-and then we shall feel joy To know our tasks are all well-done, Our labors have not been in vain, The sweat and tears a goal to gain, The problem's past: the victory won! This is the country that we love. How can we fall along the way? We've seen our life's goal from afar- The world is ours to make or mar- The challenge to our youth today! 16
