Last Will cud Testament NORTH CAROLINA LEE COUNTY Broadway We, the graduates of Broadway High School of the above state and county, in the year of Our Lord Nineteen Hundred Forty-nine, do hereby will and bequeath our fol- lowing blessings, this our Last Will and Testament: ARTICLE I To the faculty, we bequeath our studiousness, high grades, and in general, our genius. ARTICLE II To the Juniors we leave our quiet manners plus the enjoyment of another year at B roadway High. ARTICLE III To the Sophomores we will our infinite knowledge acquired from books and ‘“ex- perience.” ARTICLE IV To the Freshmen (innocent creatures) we will all of our luck, which we are sure they will need in years not too far away. ARTICLE VI The following personages make these individual bequeaths: Norine Whitfield leaves her popularity to Esther Campbell. Nellie Gray Lett wills her politeness to Nellie Womack. Mary Cole leaves her happiness to Alice Jordan. Johnsie Lee Thomas bequeaths her big blue eyes to Lou Etta Kelly. Flizabeth Thomas wills her figure to Frances Frye. . Helen Kittrell’s wit is left to Lynn Campbell. Frances Stewart leaves her athletic spirit to Libby Thomas. Elva Mae Thomas bequeaths her beauty to Allie Mae Dickens. Mary Frances Yarborough wills her musical ability to Mary Ruth Patterson. Billy Boggs leaves his good looks to Jesse Thomas. Glenn Griffin bestows his athletic talent on Hal Stewart. Edward Stevens wills his cute smile to Braxton Dickens. Everette Bradley bequeaths his curls to Mary Jo Wolfe. Elbert Yarborough bestows his ability to ‘be everywhere at once’? on James Hunter. We see Frances Stewart starring in Hollywood and Vine’s big hit of the year, “Bucking Buckaroo,” written and produced by that famous author of North Carolina, Billy Boggs. And now, Everette Bradley, the most bashful member of the class of ’49 is seen sitting cozily by the fire counting the millions he has made on the stock market. Helen Kittrell gives competent advice to the lovelorn in the Daily Tribune. In her spare time she has written the top hit of the month, “Love At Last Sight.” Norine Whitfield is now secretary of Thomas’ Lumber Company and performs her duties with exactness and efficiency. But alas! this glimpse of 10 years hence is now concluded. Perhaps we will exceed our fondest dreams, for aren’t we the “masters of our fate and the captains of our souls’’?
