Keeping the Beat in Quebec On May 14, 1 386, the band and drill team traveled to Quebec, Canada for the Fes¬ tival des Quebec sponsored by Heritage Festivals. After an 1 8 hour bus trip, the group welcomed a walking tour of Quebec City. The band and drill team performed in an exhibition on a boardwalk in the city. The concert and jazz bands performed in competition and were awarded bronze awards. They spent much of their free time on tours in and around Quebec. The trip took much work but ended by being fun and educational for all. In order to pay for the buses, meals, and hotel fees, the band spent months raising money. They held a rock-a-thon, sold pancakes, candles, lightbulbs, seat cushions, baked goods, and held a Halloween party to meet the fund requirements — over $1 0,000 in all. Language barriers presented a problem on the trip to Quebec. The 1 8 hour bus ride started to take its toll on Melody Derrow. Montmorency Falls cascades down the mountainside. This is just one of the wonders that the band and drilll team got to visit. 8 Quebec Trip
