The theme of “Never Surrender” was carried out in Broadway High School’s Homecoming events for 1985. Classes had competitions in hall decorations, spirit days and class floats. At the annual parade the Eli Drama Club, advertising the fall production of “Barefoot in the Park,” won the prize for the best float, and the senior class settled for second place with their recon¬ structed Iwo Jima flag-raising scene. Halftime activities included the crowning of the Homecoming queen Susan Rush by Kay Wine, BHS’s first queen, and a performance by the band, drill team and majorette. The homecoming dance began after the game. At the pre-game bonfire the cheerleaders cast a spell on Fort Defiance High School. 2
