School philosophy may be thought of as a body of principles or general conceptions underlying the operation and activity of your educational agency. A statement of educational philosophy depends upon the judg¬ ment of no one person, but includes the opinion and judgment of the people of the community, pupils, and teachers as to what constitutes the educational needs of boys and girls during and following their high school years. It is desirable that pupils, par¬ ents, and the entire community have a positive attitude toward their school. It is important that they feel the school is an integral part of community life. Secondary education is a com¬ munity enterprise. Its purpose and curriculum are designed by the desires that parents have for the personal-social development of each youth. We hope that our effort to interpret basic school philosophy in this edition of the yearbook will help you to understand and establish the objectives for your local high school program. Society rightly turns to its schools to seek solutions to its problems; but these decisions cannot be made by educators alone, nor have they been made in this fashion. These decisions must be made by the people whom the schools serve. Present priorities in public education need continuing study. Perhaps new priorities will be written for our high schools within the next decade, but they are likely to be written by the people whom they serve. We welcome any opportunity to work with you in helping to extend and broaden the range as to what good schools are and what they can accomplish. MR. J. BUSINESS MANAGERS 93 I hope that you appreciate the efforts that the annual staff have exhibited in trying to make this edition of MEMORIES the best ever published. May the future have a rich reward for those who seek success in their undertakings. Dear Friends, (p is We, the graduating class of 1961, will soon be leaving Broadway High School. All through our years of education, we have strived to reach this goal. We are indebted to our principal who has guided and directed us and our school through the years. We are grateful to all our teachers who have devotedly taught and helped us grow. We are thankful for our friends who have made these years enjoyable and memorable. Because of these influences, we have developed a sense of loyalty for our school which shall remain with us all through our lives. As we leave Broadway High, we will take with us the memories of our past years. We shall leave a hope and a prayer for each student who remains: a hope that each person will take advantage of the opportunities which are avail¬ able to him; and a prayer that each one will earnestly and constantly strive to reach the goal which we, as Seniors, have first attained. Sincerely, Dear Members of the Student Body, Serving as an officer of the Student Council has been an enlightening ex¬ perience as well as much hard work. I should like to leave this thought to future students of Broadway High School: before you complain about a rule, think why it was made. Best wishes for a successful Student Government, ' ‘y. O.
