An education is the ability to think clearly and then act upon that decision, even though that decision may deviate from what is safe and acceptable at that moment. I also believe that we cannot educate yourhead and let your spirit run freeg nor can we stuff your head with language and facts to leave your manners and morals run astray, causing indecision. Always remember if you are undecided, you cannot act- and action is the basis of all success stories. SCHOOL BOARD The members of the school board meet to talk about the school, its problems and their solutions, its faculty and its purpose. Carl Heiken, Lawrence Erickson, Lloyd Ivie, Clint McFarland, and Ellen Bogden qclerkj meet once a month on Monday nights and sometimes call special meetings. 4 X c 4,,,1...f- FACU LTY Mr. Thoreson Miss Moody Mathematics English I 85 IV Business Mr. Strosky Mr. Gift Physical Science French I, U, gl UI Biology Guidance Counselor Chemistry American Government Science '7 85 8 Coach Mr. Robertus Mr. Swanson Band English II 85 III Speech Physical Education Coach Mr. Melnrk MI. At the afternoon assembly, the Freshmen performed great feats of skill and daring for which they were justly rewarded. --1 ' QRGANIZATIQNSI PEP BAND 5 . 9 J Front Row: Mr. Robertus, Director, Becky Adams, Roy Heiken, Deni Israel, Margaret Neff, Lavonne Ivie, Kathy Mosdal. This picture shows Barbie Baird, 1970 presi- dent of the Lloyd DeWitt Chapter of the National Honor Society, presiding over the induction ceremonies held May 14. This year's induction ceremony was more infor- mal rhan those in years previous. In hopes of making Honor Society seem more human and real, and a more integral part of the school, the traditional roses, white table- cloth, reception of tea and cookies and long speeches were replaced by short, ver- nacular speeches and a revised swearing-in procedure. The three provisional members of 1970 became the regular members of the 1971 chapter. Pictured are Dave Mosdal, Margaret Stiles and Ann Heiken. NHS The Lloyd DeWitt Chapter was sponsored by Dave Gift this year. The three admin- istrative offices were held by the only three who were eligible: President: Barbie Baird Vice-President: Midji Stephenson Secretary-Treasurer: Kathy Mosdal These three girls' status as regular mem- bers made them eligible to hold office. The provisional members are denied this privilege until they become regular mem- bers. The NHS performed acts of service: serving at the Annual GTA supper and es- tablishing College Week fa week during which the student body was supplied with various material regarding colleges, trade schools, etc. and information about admis- sion, scholarships and expenses.j Their activities included a trip to see Anne of a Thousand Days. Becky Adams, Valda Fortney and Denise Bogden Q in absentiaj were installed as pro- visional members, eligible for regular mem- bership next year. As it comes into focus, we see our first subject: We behold our old friend, Bill Hickson, in a sad scene. He has passed away after a full life. He was married, divorced and well endowed with great sums of money-not necessarily in that order. Next, we see Connie Drevs, winging her way around the world as a top-notch airline hostess. She has really advanced rapidly in her field, netting her all sorts of fringe benefits. . . On we go. we see Barbie Baird in gay Paris on a sojoum to the world-famous fashion salons. She has been instructing young designers for two months, but now she 's on her way home, to husband and family Q2 kidsj. We see Dan House as he works in his bachelor apartment, designing new engines for all manner of machines. We know, he'll probably never get married! Then, there's Cindy-she 's an H.S. History teacher now fthat's funny-she sure used to hate history!J She's gotten married in the meantime and has four kids, too! Mid ji Stephenson now teaches abroad. Besides being an English teacher, she is also the school librarian. She lives in France with her rich, French, hubby. Now, Mary has become a top-flight secretary in our nation's capitol. She has succeeded in attain- ing the highest position available to our nation's secretaries. She is the personal secretary to the 9 Speaking of government, Paul Badgett is now married and living in Russia, making his living as a secret agent specializing in high-class sabotage. Colleen Frey is now a working wife and mother of two. She works at a local social center helping young people with special problems. Ann Morton is now living in the forest with her forester. You see, she gave up her career as an airline hostess for the man she loves. Victor Stephenson now owns a large ranch, producing high-quality Herefords and quarter-horses. As the most eligible bachelor in the area, he finds it necessary to have around-the-clock body- guards and high fences. Kathy Mosdal now lives with her husband and two adopted children in a restored Victorian mansion. She uses her teaching experience to help her children and to substitute for teachers in the local jr. hi. Now, it seems that ten years is forever, but it will go quicklyg then, we can look back and see how well we guessed our futures. THE CLASS OF '70 I5 This year's delegate to Girls' State is Janet Beeman. Margaret Stiles is the alternate. Janet will go to the MSU campus in late June for a week of studying gov- ernment in action.
