'R cheerleaders The members of the pep club elected Anita Jansma, Kay Conover, and Gayle Hageman to serve as cheerleaders for the year 1955-56, This was Kay and Anita's fourth year of cheerleading, and is Gay1e's first. The girls chose old gold sweaters with purple letters and purple skirts with white lining for their uniforms. We are very proud of our cheerleaders this year as they won the cheerleading contest which was held in Roundup at the District 7 tournament. Cheerleaders from all of the towns in the district took part in this event. As a prize the girls each received a pair of saddle oxfords and a plaque which will be given to the school. In ANITA IANSMA ' s KAY CONOVER , Nkmhm i ,f I ' GAYLE HAGEMAN Three mighty surprised and happy girls! Gayle, Anita, Kay, and a member of the Lions Club.

Back row: Coach Dale Wetzel, Keith Nelson, Robert Kallem, John Wilken, Dale Ostwald and Manager Don Hegg. Nine boys were eligible for basketball this year. The only senior, John Wilken, played center. Keith Nelson and Dale Ostwald, juniors, both played forward. Wayne Ostwald, freshman, and Paul Calhoun, sophomore, were guards. Robert Wilken and Rbbert Kallem, juniors, Montie Auer, sophomore, and Bobby Tew, freshman, served as substitutes. The first semester Tony Degele, junior, played guard and Norman Haworth, sophomore, was a substitute. The boys had a very .successful season this year with six wins and four losses in conference play, and five wins and three losses in non conference play. In the tournament the Pirates advanced to the championship game by defeating Rapel je and Melstone. They received second place and were challenged by Mussel- shell and defeated and therefore came home with the third place trophy.
